We were in the area on holiday and passed this fantastic old pub. We agreed to return that evening for a meal. We ordered our food and a few minutes later we were told " the last one has gone, please order something else". The starter arrived in double quick time and was okay, nothing special but not to bad either. My main course was the fish pie, not much fish and what I call plastic mash on the top (powder and water mix) which had a dry skin over it caused by its reheating, not very good at all. I was hungry and so I ate it. My wife had the fish platter, three types of soggy watery fish sharing a plate with a very soft tomato some lettuce and rather to much white bread. The cucumber and cress were okay though. We normally clear our plates when eating a meal and enjoy our food, for my wife to leave almost the whole meal is unheard of but on this occasion it was left on the plate. The waitress returned to collect the plates and asked "was everything alright?" I said no, she just walked off and said nothing. I went to the bar to pay and go, the barman also asked if everything was okay. I just wanted out, so did not reply, we left and will definatly NEVER RETURN to this pub when next here on holiday.[Report for Removal] Ken and Maggie

My wife and I had driven past the Waggon & Horses on many occasions in the last 3 or 4 years, but had never been in until today (Saturday 21st March 2009). We had always thought it looked nice, so we finally decided to have lunch there on our way home from Marlborough. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I was 'greeted' by a less-than-friendly woman behind the bar who looked at me like I had 2 heads. I placed our food order at 12.45pm. We waited..and waited....and waited. It arrived at 1.35pm. We were not warned that there might be a bit of a wait for food. I guess they've never heard of managing customer expectations over there. There was no apology for the delay. Like the service, the food was dismal. My 'Trio of sausages' were burnt to a crisp. The struggling waitress (I only saw 1 waitress during the excruciating 90 minutes we were there) asked if everything was ok. I told her my food was burnt. She said she'd replace my meal with an edible version. All of sudden, the lady from behind the bar appeared next to me saying she'd sort it out in 5 minutes. No apology. Not once did she say please or thankyou during my several exchanges with her. About 10 minutes later, replacement sausages arrived. Still nearly-burnt. Swimming in watery gravy, and lying on what looked like instant mash. I gave up, leaving 90% of the food. My wife's meal was ok, but we ended up eating separately. Great. There were other miffed-looking punters in the place. The waiting time for food was utterly ridiculous. My heavily-pregnant wife wasn't asked 'was everything ok?' as she paid the bill (I was too angry). The woman in charge was a disgrace. We won't go there ever again. -2/10 [Report for Removal] Phil Hunter
