| The previous reviews I've read absolutely do not reflect the pub that we have been to twice in the last month! (September 2010) This is a GREAT pub with a great vibe. The management (new?) are really doing everything right. From the fresh flowers on the tables, the superb quality - and really fresh - locally sourced food, to the pleasant gardens and the courteous efficient service - the availability of a good range of daily papers to read at leisure - the welcome for children, families and lovers of interesting folksy live music from talented singers - to the baby goats in a nearby pen to watch (with I believe a couple of llamas set to join them soon too) - we have been totally impressed by this place. It is rare to get a really good Sunday roast with an amazing range of side dishes; also to get beer battered cod and chips made from totally fresh ingredients - even the mushy peas were freshly made! The management really knows what they are doing and I hope the word gets around soon so that more people can enjoy what is offered here. (Mind you we don't want it to get too crowded....)[Report for Removal] | Pippa Malmesbury Wilts |

| Having visited the rose & crown for a meal after having not been for some years my wife and I were somewhat dissapointed with the lack of choice on the menu compared to how the menu used to be. I would say that the portion size and quality of food was not as good as it used to be and didnt leave the pub as satisfied as we had previously. On a plus side the service was good although we were quite looking forward to seeing the comic waiter who had previosly been there.[Report for Removal] | Richard Calne Wiltshire |

| Nice Pub, (shame about the Arkels.) New owner and chef for 2010. Its reasonable food - but gourmet prices. The previous mananger introduced takeaway cod&chips(+other options) @£4.50 - that's now ~£7 for the same thing. I'll go to the chippy thanks! There is no longer any "bar snack" (chicken/cod/ham 'n' chips @ reasonable price) option. If there was, or if the other dishes were ~£2 cheaper than they are - then I'd be there regular & recommend it.[Report for Removal] | Eric Malmesbury Wilts |

| The starters were obviously ready-made frozen, the deep-fried mushrooms were watery, all batter and tasteless, the haddock fishcake had too many bones in to make it enjoyable and the vast salad garnish did not add to the dish, the deep-fried brie was bland and the sauce was uninspiring. At around the five pound mark for these basic dishes, everything could be homemade and tasty. Main course dishes were equally as bad, the four of us will not eat here again until a new chef arrives, cooking fresh local produce. It is a real shame as the pub looks so promising from the outside.[Report for Removal] | Anthony Lea malmesbury wiltshire |
