| Whilst visiting my daughter at Leeds University we ate at the Square and Compass. The service and food was excellent. Yes the prices were higher than we expected to pay but the ability to take our beagle in and the atmosphere made up for the prices,(that actually weren't that bad!). My only comment was that with the salmon dish you do need more that just new potatoes...a bit of salad or veggies? Lovelly pub we will return.[Report for Removal] | phil HANHAM buckingham bucks |

| Having driven quite a long way from Leeds I wish I hadn't bothered. Food overpriced for what it is. £10 for a pie and the vegetables have to be ordered as an extra?!? What? Ordered 2 drinks and they forgot to bring them both times. Food as described on the menu wasn't what we got. If it says "Eggs" plural then I expect more than one egg! When I pointed this out to the staff on paying it was greeted with a smile and silence. The place was almost empty. I am not surprised...I for one won't be returning. | We've just arrived home after a fantastic meal at this pub. We went with our two kids who are not always the best behaved and we and they were made really welcome by the lovely, very friendly landlady. She brought out toys for our son and a colouring book and crayon for our daughter - nothing was too much trouble. There was lots of choice on the menu plus some interesting specials and the steak and ale pie I went for was out of this world with a tasty crunchy suet crust. My husband had lamb shank and that looked really nice too. The kid's food was simple but all fresh and cooked to the same standard. and the tomato bread which we had whilst we were waiting was the best I've ever tasted anywhere!. | I visited this Pub friday night with my friend and was very disappointed with the food quality and the attitude of the Landlord-the most miserable person in the world. | Returning after a long absence, we were delighted to find that The 'Square' has retained it's high standard of food and service. The Wensleydale Chicken was tender, succulent and delicious and our guest's choice of Fish of the day - Sea Bass with a Caesar salad was cooked as it should be - no fripperies - just lovely fresh fish! The food can take a while to arrive, but that is because it is being freshly and expertly cooked. | My family and I had a very good Sunday lunch using the family menu - pre-ordered chicken dinner for 4 + 1 child. The quality and price were very good - we look forward to coming again. I know that my family, who live in Pool, will return - they were most impressed. We were informed that a similar menu for a beef joint would be £60 rather than the £30 for the chicken. We appreciate that beef is more expensive than chicken, but I suspect that at £60 people will hesitate.
