| It used to be awful but since the new manager took over things have improved massively. They have cheap basic meals which are well cooked, a decent range of beer and are offering various entertainment and offers almost every night as they strive to be a real community pub.A great outside seating area for the warm weather and good facilities for children Anyone who hasn't been since the bad old days, it's worth a visit.[Report for Removal] | Paul Mobberley Rugeley Staffs |

| Have now been to Spode four times for the Sunday carvery, and cannot fault it in any way. Always a good choice of meat's, fresh (not frozen rubbish) vegetables, and good/friendly service. I had stopped going there for a while because (as other people have said) it was awful....... but I highly recommend it now its changed hands.[Report for Removal] | june rugeley staffs |

| Six off us tried the 1 3 1 menu on Tuesday lunch time I must say all our meals were very good.The new management Mike& Karen are doing very well always there to see everything is Ok .So come on try it lunch time its cheaper than cooking at home. | Spode Cottage has new people running it and are trying very hard to build the reputation back up of this local pub. There is now a quiz night on a Wednesday as well as entertainment most nights. The food is basic but very tasty and the Sunday carvery is extremely good. If you have been put off from this pub in the past then I suggest you give it another go - the Chef no longers works there! | Me my husband and two very young children went to eat at Spode Cootage as it was my husbands birthday and the children were attracted by the bouncy castle. My husbands sirloin steak was half fat and gristle and very tough, I took it up to speak to the staff and the chef came to the table after around 15 minutes. He was extremely aggressive, very intimidating and was staring me out, he tried to make me feel that it was my fault and kept saying that we had tried the steak so how dare we complain. We stuck to our guns, even though it upset our children my 5 year old in the car later called him "that nasty man". When i went to the bar for my refund i was ignored by the staff and the kitchen staff slammed the kitchen door after all coming to give me evil glares. I was so disgusted by the behaviour of the staff and the arrogant nasty attitude of the chef. I feel that if decent people wish to go out for a nice meal stay away from SPODE COTTAGE. | My wife and I visited Spode Cottage for lunch after church. The food was cool and quickly grew cold. My wife could not eat more than the potatoes; I went to complain and the Chef came to our table. No apology, simply "Well no one else has complained!" The implication being that we were the problem not the service. The Chef offered to replace the food but quite frankly my wife did not want to eat anything further. We offered a refund but when I went to collect it I was treated most abruptly. No apology, no examination of why there was a customer complaint, just a group of staff looking daggers at me. Service, these folk don't know about such a thing. I intend to complain further. | Food terrible.Menu advertises home cooked chips and they are frozen,this was very misleading. I complained to the chef who was in a drunken state as was the manager. The manageress thought my complaint was wrong and petty and looked at me as if I was something that she had trodden in. | We ate at the carvery 23/12/06 for my sons birthday. The food was awful, grossly overcooked meat and vegetables. My son found a rotten piece of cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese. I complained to the staff, one of whom apologised, the rest were disinterested. Unfortunately you have to pay before the meal!!
