| Visited the pub today Friday 4th December. After reading the Express and Star review thought we were going to be in for a treat, how wrong we were! we had 3 roast dinners at £2.50, 1 cheese and onion pie for £1 ( its on the main meals but you have to pay for the chips seperately) and 1 steak pie meal for £2.50. The chips were the worst ive ever had , it was as though they had been cooked in lard two days ago, the cheese and onion pie although large was equally as vile a lumpy mash concoction with cheese on top and really dry, the roasts looked fantastic but tasted dire the roast potatos were black inside and tasted off, the carrots were not peeled properly and the meat was cold as though it had just come out of the fridge, there was 1 cheap economy sausage and a few watery sprouts , the green cabbage was ok and so was the gravy. The puddings were £2 each and we had ginger sponge a small slice with no custard , i presume from the taste it was a mc vities jamaican ginger cake 2 for a pound from all good supermarkets, the knickerboker glories were not glorious they tasted cheap and watery with a mix of tinned and real fruit. i have never known a pub to sell a cornetto icecream as a pudding. on the plus points the ale was fantastic and the waitress service was good, also the real fire gave ambiance. I know you only get what you pay for but id sooner pay a little extra and try the pub accross the road. The newspaper review said its serving 3 course lunches for 2.50 , the only mention of this on the menu was for the 23rd of december and there was no sign of a 50p menu . sorry i wont be going back there for food but il stop and have a drink when passing through![Report for Removal] | liz walsall westmidlands |
