My family and I have now been to this pub on a couple of occasions and enjoyed very much the Sunday carvery which is excellent value for money and very substantial offering a choice of three types of meats with yorkshire pud and lots of fresh cooked vegetables plus a large choice of puddings. Well cooked very well presented and a cheerful and warm welcome from Steve and Angie. Excellent child friendly pub with outside play area and offering a wonderful panoramic view over the countryside and nearby canal. We were so full afterwards that we drove a short way down the road to Stanley Marina where we spend and hour walking in the sunshine along the towpath admiring the lovely decorated barges, amble parking in the adjoining pub car/park. All in all a lovely Sunday afternoon outing, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it too.[Report for Removal] Adele Rhodes

A great traditional family friendly real ale pub ! A warm welcome from landlord and landlady who clearly work hard to provide a decent menu with large portions of pub fare at very competitive prices. A range of specials, deals for the over 60's, themed evenings for steak or curry nights and a very popular Sunday carvery. All the usual facilities including pool, darts, a garden and children's outdoor play area. Several very satisfied visits will ensure my family & I return again and again.[Report for Removal] Hewitt Family

I visited the Thatched House Inn for dinner on 31 May 2008, with my husband, my parents and my 2 sons aged 5 and 1. We were made to feel very welcome and the bar staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The drinks were very reasonably priced. The food arrived promptly and was lovely with very generous portions, it was also very reasonably priced. I wish that I lived closer as this is exactly the sort of friendly, welcoming local that I wouldlike to have!!![Report for Removal] Nicola Bubb

We visited this pub on Thursday 9th May: I ordered haddock & chips but was told they had no fish. The bar man suggested scampi but I said I didnt like seafood - to which he answered "what is fish then?" I went on to order Steak and Ale Pie and a jacket potato. When my meal came (20 mins later than rest of my party) the pie had clearly been microwaved and the pastry was soggy. It was covered in gravy and the jacket potato (which had also been microwaved) was plonked on the gravy, accompanied by two floating packs of butter. The vegetables were frozen mixed vegetables. The meal was so poor that I didnt hardly eat any of it. The pie was made from pie filling. When the barman came to clear our table he commented on the food left on the plate: we told him that the meal was not very nice to which he simply replied "no one else has complained!" Definately not a pub to visit for food - stay away.[Report for Removal] Christine Butterfield
