| I find this comment quite laughable as we are fast becoming one of the best pubs one town to quote a local historians book 'the last of England' describing all the pubs etc in Widnes,' By late 2010 its cuisine and excellent menu had given the pub a deserved reputation as the finest eatery in town' Their words not mine. | Further to the response given by the Landlord of this pub. a) I telephoned the pub the following day and the Manager was unavailable. A young lady took my name and telephone number and said I would receive a telephone call back - Nobody bothered to return my call, hense why I reviewed this place. b) The wine was labelled ASDA! and I t is still for sale in the ASDA. I am sure trading standards will inform me of the outcome of their investigation. I had eaten there many times and certainly have nothing to gain in making up such a story.The wine bottle was clearly marked ASDA. We were astonished. Perhaps I should have voiced my opinion at the time but thought it better to speak to the Manager next day, The Landlord should perhaps keep a closer eye on what is going on in his business and ensure the wine cellar is stocked in order to save having to run to ASDA for supplies. | As the landlord and chef at the crown we find constructive criticicsm very helpful to move our business forward, what we cannot accept are untrue statements. All our food at the Crown is homemade on the premises and certainly not bought in unlike a lot of other pubs/restaurants in the area. Our wine is sourced via an extremely capable wine supplier, obviously we have to have a certain mark up on our food/wine otherwise we would soon go out of business but what we attempt to offer is quality at affordable prices. To say that the pub is struggling is completely untrue and a deformation of character I suggest that anyone who has constructive comments please talk to us and not make false statements. | Cons: Went for a meal with a friend last night 18th August 2010 to this pub. have eaten there previously. Had time to think about this and I am really miffed! We ordered a bottle of white wine which was £19.99 and on the back was ASDA. Appaulling that these owners or managers whoever they are, have the cheek to buy wine from ASDA and sell it on at £20 quid a bottle. We had a dessert each which has probably also come from ASDA as they sell the exact same pudding at 2 for £1. Just microwave for 1 minute , stick your blob of ice cream next to it and bingo £5 quid please. Well no thanks, for a struggling Widnes pub they need to do better than that. For what we paid we could have eaten at the Coterie up the road and had quality. Well its decided I will not be getting ripped off there again?[Report for Removal] | Mrs K Johnstone Widnes Cheshire |
