| Three of us visited the pub on Monday 20th July, me, my husband and daughter ( 26years old ) WE arrived just as the pub opened at 5.30pm on our way from visiting Truro for the day back to our base in Newquay. WE bought a drink and sat and looked at the menu. I was slightly perturbed about the place when we looked at the menu, and although it was a " family" pub was slightly put off that the menu CLEARLY stated they could not mix flavours of ice creams (from a choice of three ) and did not sell bread or rolls to go with childrens meals!!! Not very family friendly. Also, written on the dartboard was a sign " NO GAMES " However we proceeded to the bar to order a meal but was promptly told that we could order but the kitchen was not open till 6pm and the chef had not arrived yet. This, with hindsight is when alarm bells should have rung, but unfortunately we did go ahead and order. 1 Rump steak 1 steak and ale pie 1 scampi and chips 1 garlic bread ( at a cost of £4.00!) When the meals came, all served with fresh veg in a serving dish they looked to be OK. However, the home made steak & ale pie was a portion of tough steak with no ale and a circle of frozen flaky pastry "plonked " on the top. THere were 6 small pieces of scampi, slightly still frozen in the middle and the steak, well that was just about edible. THe portion of chips, and I mean a portion between three of us were " chunky" but luke warm, greasy and part cooked, you could squash them with a fork and the grease oozed out of them. The veg, fresh so much so that it was practically raw. Oh and the garlic bread was still part frozen too. No one came to ask at any time if the meals were OK, another bad sign in my book. When eventually the woman that took our order came to clear the plates I believe she did wask was everything OK to which we replied, The scampi was frozen, the steak in the pie was tough, the chips were disgusting and the veg was practically raw. To which she replied, everything is home made and was freshly cooked, and that the veg is cooked the way it should be cooked. No apology, no offer of refund or sweets or coffee as a way of an apology. She was right and we were wrong. God knows why, but we chose not to make a fuss, maybe becausewe were visitors to Cornwall, I don't know. although there was not another soul in the pub, now we know why, no doubt if there had of been they may have done something about making recompense or an apology even. WE left and later I rang the pub and spoke with that same woman, I told her the meals were apalling and was disgusted that she had not made any sort of an apology about the meal and she said that she had spoken to her chef and he said there was nothing wrong with any of the food. Furthermore she informed me that the steak had been eaten, BIG DEAL over £35.00 for a mediocre rump extortionate by any standards. I told her, in no uncertain terms that I thought her chef would be better served cleaning toilets as he obviously could not cook. I also advised her I would be writing on the internet how we were treated ! I would NOT visit this pub again if it was the last and only pub in Cornwall and I was both starving and hungry and both my husband and daughter agree. Their food was absolutely diabolical, one meal might be a bit "iffy" but three--- NO WAY, we might as well have just thrown £36.00 into the Atlantic. And the customer service skills were non existant! These people were obviously NOT cornish, they would have too much pride in their cookery and be far too friendly and helpful.!!!! Take it from us this is one pub you would not want to visit in Cornwall. [Report for Removal] | Lin Haines BRISTOL AVON |
