| A lively pub which has live music 1 or 2 nights a week and quiz nights etc on other nights. When I visited, most people in the pub appeared to be known to the landlord, however all the staff made us feel very welcome. The live music started at 9pm, but was not too loud you could not speak in the dining area. The food helpings were slightly on the generous side and although typical Pub fare, this pub has a fairly extensive menu in comparison to other pubs in the area. Perhaps a 20 minute wait for each course and my wife's Chicken was slightly overdone, but otherwise the food was really good. Food is cheaper on weekdays but prices range from £6 to £15 for main courses. This is a lively pub full of character and a good place to stop if you are walking the great flat lode trial or visiting Carn Brea monument. | We visited The Countryman for the first time in years last night to watch Edison Lighthouse singing songs of the sixties. We had the most wonderful meals and were served a good 20 minutes after our first order despite the pub being packed to the rafters. We had a wonderful waitress who was very friendly and very helpful when we couldn't decide what to eat. We had the most wonderful time and will definately go back and will recommend the pub to as many people as possible. A fantastic night all round! | As a treat for Mother's Day, my wife and I decided to take my Mother-in-Law for a meal at The Countryman, as she'd heard good reviews of the food. I can't comment further on this, however, as we waited over 45 minutes without food, even though two other tables had arrived after us (about 10 mins and about 20 mins after) and still received theirs. We asked two waitresses (I think one of them was the Manageress or Supervisor) how long we would had to wait, as my Mother-in-Law is diabetic and needed to eat soon, but received no feedback at all. Eventually, we got up and walked off. I spoke to the Manageress / Supervisor we'd spoken to earlier, to complain at the wait and the lack of feedback on the delay. When I asked what the delay had been, she went off to the kitchen, and returned to say that there'd been "a problem in the kitchen". I asked what the problem was, pointing out that two other tables had managed to receive their orders without difficulty. Having disappeared off to the kitchen again, the lady returned with what I assume was the Manager, who rather brusquely informed me that "there's been a problem in the kitchen, but if you want to leave, then that's your prerogative, so just go". I politely inquired as to the nature of the problem, again pointing out that tables that had arrived well after us had both received their food, but received the same curt response. No apologies, no explainations, and no offer to refund the cost of our drinks to make up for the delay. I will be happy if I never go here again, and my Mother-in-Law, who lives nearby, will be making a point of passing-on our experience to her friends and relatives who also live in the area. To sum-up, I can't comment on the food, but the customer service is non-existant, and if you need to complain, downright rude.[Report for Removal] | C. Grant Gunnislake Cornwall |
