| We found The Woodcock by chance yesterday evening as we were having a summer evening drive around the countryside. What a treasure to find! Tucked away down country lanes it's a pub like there used to be but are sadly scarce today. It's a typical country pub in appearance; low wooden beams, snug little corners, comfortable cosy feeling. The current tenants took over on Good Friday & you can see they're really trying to make a go of it. We were given a very warm, friendly welcome &, when trying to decide what to drink from an excellent selection of Greene King real ales, we were invited to sample some Ale Fresco, GK's special summer brew. My other half had a pint of that & I went for a half of Abbott, the best I've tasted since moving from Essex a few years ago where we had close to the Suffolk border near the GK Bury St. Edmunds brewery. The food also deserves a mention. Everything we had was absolutely superb. They use local produce and a lot of the dishes are homemade. My husband had sausages & mash (his favourite), the sausages coming from a butcher in Rolverden & I had homemade Chicken Wellington which was delicious. We were too full up for desserts but wish we could have tried something; the chocolate puddle duck sounded scrumptuously interesting. We'll be back & hope people read this review & give them a try.
