| The Boot Inn has great character from the outside and on entering had a lovely log fire to welcome us on a cold evening and a warm friendly greeting from the barmaid who was more than happy for us to move a table closer to enjoy the fire. Despite being very quiet for a Saturday evening we enjoyed a good meal serving up good traditional pub grub. The portions were generous and we had a delicious steak and chicken for our main courses. Some interesting pictures showing the history over the years in Houghton and a collection of displays of fish caught locally. Definitely worth a visit and some great walks on the doorstep.[Report for Removal] | Tim and Natalie Stockbridge Hampshire |

| I realise now re-reading these reviews that all the negative ones are prior to April 2010 when the present landlords took it over. [Report for Removal] | Caroline Christchurch Dorset |

| What a strange mix of reviews...I have to say both food(excellent scampi and chips) and service (friendly and prompt) were good and I would recommend this inn to anyone.[Report for Removal] | Caroline Christchurch Dorset |

| I was taken to lunch at The Boot Inn today to celebrate my 84th birthday. We were made very welcome, the food was excellent, and we were visited by two or three very friendly dogs, who laid at our feet, hopefully. It was a delightful experience.[Report for Removal] | Joyce Head Romsey Hants |

| Today we were able to witness first hand the very definition of rudeness...which from previous reviews seems to be a reoccurring theme at this establishment! The Landlord at 2.00 in the afternoon barred us from his pub for wearing muddy boots...(we did admitt that we were in the wrong, and tried to apologise a number of times, as well as clean up the small amount of mess we bought in)We were verbally abused and insulted, treated like children and told we could collect the sandwiches we'd paid for at the backdoor. When we said that we would leave happily with a full refund, we had to endure a further 10 minutes of abuse until the very embarrassed barman suggested that we were given our money. Never in our lives have we ever been subjected to such a horrible person with such antisocial behaviour. Only go to this pub if you want to stick 'The Boot' in.[Report for Removal] | Erin and Dan Winchester Hampshire |

| I don't know how this place stays in business, Shocking service (that's If your lucky to get any service). Be warned It's not worth complaining unless you want a tirade of insults from the rudest landlord I've ever met in my entire life.[Report for Removal] | unhappy customer winchester Hants |

| We walked out of the Boot after the Landlord verbally abused a friend who had the temerity to complain when he had to wait 45 minutes for food and 15 minutes for a drink. Being local I wrote later suggesting he appologised for his over reaction, but to no avail.[Report for Removal] | G C Henderson Broughton Hampshire |

| We were witness to an extremely rude verbal assault by the landlord of The Boot on a customer whose only crime seemed to be that he asked to be served after waiting patiently at the bar for a long time whilst others who approached the bar later than he did were served before him. The customer's food order also never arrived. In an extraordinary move the Landlord banned the man from the pub. [Report for Removal] | A Brierly Middle Wallop Hampshire |

| My family arranged an evening meal there for my 74th birthday. The welcome and the service and food were excellent. Fresh organic vegetables from the garden and carrots that tasted like carrots used to be. My son and I had possibly the best steaks ever.[Report for Removal] | Christopher Jarman Winchester Hampshire |

| Have visited this pub on many occasssions and always enjoyed the food - such a shame that on our last visit the landlord got our drinks order wrong, wouldn't rectify it and became very rude when we queried it.[Report for Removal] | Disappointed Salisbury Wiltshire |

| I arranged a 70th birthday dinner for 40 former colleagues at the Boot on 18th Novemeber 2006. I received excellent cooperation from the owner (Richard) and from the chef(Paul) in making arrangements and choosing menus. A number of guests wrtoe to me praising the standard of the meal and service. It was super evening[Report for Removal] | Frank Fahy Stockbridge Hampshire |
