| This pub pulls off the difficult trick of being both a vibrant local serving Wilton and the surrounding hamlets as well as a growing number of visitors from further afield who can come to enjoy the atmosphere of that rarest of all things - a real working local country pub. The menu is remarkably varied for a small pub, often with great fresh fish from Cornwall, and hearty pub food. This is a place to come after a walk in the lovely countryside - a trip to the Windmill or Crofton Beam Engines, perhaps. Reading some of the previous reviews I can't help thinking that some customers have got slightly the wrong idea about what a village pub is all about, and need to think a bit harder about the realities of making a pub like this work before bringing a set of unrealistic expectations with them. As a regular visitor to The Swan for both a quick drink or a wholesome meal, I value the fact that it is such a part of true local life, as well as somewhere that we can welcome visitors from further afield to enjoy a bit of what makes Wilton such an attractive place to visit. | We went to with a party of 6 to celebrate my wife's birthday. The starters were fine, but the main course dreadful. 3 portions of roast beef had to be sent back to the kitchen twice as the meat was cold. The attitude of the staff was very bad. We asked for some drinks and after waiting 10 minutes, had to go the bar myself. There is clearly an issue with staff as they always seem different. A group of people came in and were left waiting and told to have a drink, they were unhappy as they had made a booking. A great shame as the food and service has always been very good in the past. I would love to have recommended the Swan but sadly no longer. The landlord has no customer care skills and obviously does not take complaints seriously. Perhaps he has only time for the weekender's who come down, and has no time for the locals when seasonally it is quieter. Both my wife and I emailed our concerns and never received the courtesy of a reply. The bitter is also hit and miss. Better to stick to the lager and bitter. | We took a friend for lunch on saturday 2.10.10. We were given a friendly greeting by the landlady.Took ages to choose from the extensive menu. We all had fantastic starters the homemade soup was superb. Main courses were amazing especially the crab from the specials board. Portions are large so didnt get to the sweets. Great selection of beer and ciders.Th ankfully we booked as the pub was buzzing with young and old. | very disapointing, i chose the vegetarian roast which was good, but the side vegetable of cabbage came with ham! and even when asked couldn't come without, i was very dissapointed to say the least. the other veg was totally overcooked and inedible. generally we go out with friends and take turns paying, unfortunately this was a friends turn so we had to pretend it was ok. if i had been paying i would have made a complaint. sadly a very expensive let down in general[Report for Removal] | geraldine murphy chiseldon wilts |
