I recently ate at this restaurant due the excellent review given in the daily telegraph review site as well as others - I’m not sure when these reviews were written though they are so far from the truth it is unbelievable. I was highly disappointed about the whole experience, upon entrance you are struck by the dated and almost tacky carpet and interior which generally isn't a factor to me however this is one of if not the most expensive of the "gastro pub" style restaurants in Oxfordshire and is nothing in comparison to the likes of "The Royal Oak" in Ramsden, "The Chequers Inn" in Churchill or "The Trout" at tadpole bridge in Buckland Marsh (on interior, atmosphere and most of all food quality) which are all similar prices if not cheaper. The menu is only written on a blackboard with no menus given at the table other than a wine list(the menu as it is isn't very comprehensive consisting only of around 10 starters and 10 mains anyway). Me and my partner both had the "3 cheese and red onion tart" for starter that was ok, nothing special but ok and my partner had the "steak and kidney pie" for main and I had the "medallions of fillet of scotch beef served with a wild mushroom sauce". The steak and kidney pie was vaguely edible though apparently the sauce was not at all nice and the steak fillets were ok themselves though the sauce was bland and tasteless. My partner only had a small amount of hers and I (bearing in mind this main alone cost over £20) only managed 1 of my medallions as it was so bland as well as the fact that the mains only came with a bowl full of questionable to say the least vegetables to which I used to work in a bog standard pub restaurant, serving similar if not better veg than we received that had been microwaved prior to service - I would not have been surprised if the same had been done in this instance. Again the "terrible" rating that I have given is mostly due to the fact that it is such an expensive restaurant, I really resented having to pay over £50 for a meal consisting of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 soft drinks and as already stated we couldn't eat much of our mains due to them being such poor quality. You eat in a sterile atmosphere (the restaurant being well under half if not a quarter full and this is on a Saturday night) with cheap and nasty plates and decor. All round a highly unenjoyable meal leading to us leaving without finishing our mains and within an hour and 10 minutes of arrival. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone - go to one of the restaurants mentioned above instead, you'll be treated to much better food, atmosphere and general experience. Please do not waste your time and money here - you will only be disappointed.[Report for Removal] Michael Buckland
