| Once you get to know the landord, Frank,you will that he does indeed have a sense of humour. We have never been disappointed with the food which has always been good and Natalie his wife cooks real home cooked meals. They are reasonably priced especially the senior deals. | Very unfriendly landlord who obviously dislikes children and does not hide the fact. We only came in here because the excellent Red Lion was completely full and unable to accommodate us. | Very similar experience to the previous 2 reviewers. The landlord was stern with a sour demeanour. We ordered the Sunday lunch for 2 adults and asked the waitress if we could order smaller portions for our 2 children. She 'kindly' agreed to make 2 child sized portions. Assuming they would charge less I was astounded to be charged for 4 adult meals. When I questioned the landlord he stated brusquely that they “Don’t do children’s portions”. Why then didn’t they tell me they would serve us half a meal for the price of a full one?! He eventually agreed to knock a few pounds off. I made up the difference by not leaving a tip. | Excellent meal the landlord has a very strange sense of humour but he in my opinion prefers adults to family people. His wife does the cooking and if you want a good valued meal you would not do better than the Carpenters and the beer is first class. Other pubs in lacock serve ready made meals but Natalie serves good wholesome home made food. Get past the Landlord and have a brilliant meal. | I was interested to read John Nuttals review 25/2/08 of this pub as I & a friend had a similar experience. We briefly walked through the pub to see if they had a garden at the back as it was a hot day & we thought it would be nice to sit outside & have a drink. Unable to find a garden we left, followed by I assume the Landlord who said in a most unfriendly manner 'you can't come in here & just use the toilets' we explained that we hadn't & were looking to see if there was a garden to which he repied 'same difference'. Two people passing by commented on his attitude. We then found another pub in Lacock with a garden & someone there mentioned that they had also been involved in a dispute with the Landlord. He really does have mannerisms which resemble Basil Fawlty & we will not venture into the Carpenters arms again. [Report for Removal] | Disillusioned Weybridge Surrey |

| This pub is run by the most miserable landlord I have ever met. He wins the 'Basil Fawly Award' for service and attitude habds down. If you ever think of eating or drinking there think again and go somewhere else. When two of us had the audacity to sit in a table for four he told us (not asked politely) to move to a table for 2. since the pub was by no means busy, I promply cancelled my order for lunch and left.
