| The Dumb Post has a bit of a local reputation, even featuring as a main entry in the Good Pub Guide. It’s got great views from the garden across towards Bowood and the White Horse at Cherhill, and the 6X is well kept, but for me, those plus points don’t justify the generous plaudits. This pub is ideally placed for me for a cycle in the country to meet a fellow cyclist, but having got there I’d really like to consider eating something. Anyone entering the bar is faced with the smell of dampness and decay, and assuming the bar reflects the condition of the kitchen, the very thought of eating anything that has been prepared in it ruins my appetite. I really want to like this pub more. It’s a good old fashioned drinker’s pub (if somewhat quirky) and as a summer venue when you can go outside, admire the view and down a passable pint, this place is OK.
