| Recently visited The Sycamore for the first time in well over a year after hearing about a change in ownership,(I believe the old guy who had it previously has moved on) Vast improvement, staff were very friendly, food was exceptional and most importantly had a fantastic ambience, nice to see the place is finally on its feet, will definatley be back again very soon, hopefully to enjoy the well awaited summer[Report for Removal] | Jane Hayfield Derbyshire |

| My wife and I have been many times over the last couple of years but after being disappointed on the last two visits we won't be going again any time soon . This place is definitely trading on its past reputation in our view and until it gets its act together we'll give it a miss. Pity, it used to be really good. | I visit the Sycamore Inn on a regular weekly basis either entertaining business customers or socially with family and friends. The menu is varied and the food is of an excellent standard, this also includes the special menus they have on offer.We went along to a barbeque last month, this was excellent value for money and the food was very good. The Inn has patio areas and beautiful landscaped gardens,it is nice to relax outside on comfortable patio furniture and take in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding countryside.The Manager, Scott, is such an excellent host, he always greets all his customers on arrival and makes every one welcome. It is uncanny how he remembers what you like. As a result of his excellent management skills and rappor with his staff, all the staff who work with him are so friendly and no matter what you require they are always there to help, and serve your meal and/ or drinks with a friendly smile and manner. | Hi, my now wife and I have been going to the Sycamore regularly for nearly two years. (My wife longer). The food is always above our expectations as is the service. In fact, we had our wedding day and night time receptions there and everyone of the staff went out of their way to give us a day that we will never forget. It was quite simply fantastic and could not have been better. I would highly recommend the Sycamore to anyone who likes excellent food in a friendly atmoshpere. | I recently visited the Sycamore Inn last saturday night, what can i say there is a vast improvement in this place. The last time me and my husband visited we found the male owner was a very pretentious and extremely arrogant. The food was excellent well done to the chefs. we had houmous to start, to follow i had chicken ballontine and my husband had the seafood cocktail, they were extremely delightful. For our main course i had the swordfish with a thai broth and my husband has the rack of lamb with mint tomatoes, the meal was most satisfying. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the feel to the place. The staff could not be more helpfull and polite compared to the previous visit we made where we complained about the measure off spirit in our drinks. We mentioned this the male owner, he didn't even apologise for it. He just then left our table abruptly. We are glad that he is no longer there as it makes the Sycamore inn a very pleasent and lovely restaraunt. | Brought some friends for overseas for a meal on Saturday - they were very impressed by the changes since they had last visited - the food FAB...the atmosphere FAB....the staff accomodated the children very well and Scott remembered us from our previous visit and handed back to us our daughters misplaced DS !!!!! saving me having to buy a new one.Will deffinatley try the Sunday lunch and seriously think about the party nights.[Report for Removal] | Karen Buxton Derbyshire |

| I eat and drink in the Sycamore Inn fairly regularly, I have taken friends, family and clients for dinner and have always found the staff, food, drink and atmosphere fantastic. The staff are friendly and attentive and always professional, great range of food and drink and always able to cater to dietary requirements.I also think that everything is reasonably priced and you can eat and drink here at no great expense. Particular praise to Scott, he is a fantastic host and always remembers what customers do and don't like. I cannot praise The Sycamore Inn enough and highly recommend it to anyone wishing to eat, drink or stay for a short break in, trust me, you will not be disappointed!Definately my favourite pub in the area![Report for Removal] | Jill Heywood high peak derbyshire |

| I do not know who has written the comments below, but they are totally untrue! We first visited the sycamore about a year ago, and i can only say it gets better and better every time we visit! The staff are very friendly! The food is fantastic, being a very fussy eater, the staff always alter their menu to make something i like! It has a lovely patio to sit out in in the summer, with cushioned chairs, and the staff are always there to bring you drinks and food when asked! | We are really not sure what the previous reviews are all about. This is a great place to have a great meal and drinks and the staff are pleasant and helpfull in all respects. First time here for our Mothers 69th birthday and it was everything we expected of a good class country place to eat and drink and be jolly!! The food was excellent and the setting wonderful, sat outside in the sun. | We called in for a drink and with a view to eating. My wife summed up the place in one word - dire! I am unsure which market this is aimed at? If it was located in Wilmslow/Alderley Edge/Knutsford it may stand a chance.Even in these areas it would struggle.It is showing all the signs of a place in decline.Old furnishings mixed with new / damp penetration on the walls in the lower bar area / naf posters blue takked to the walls etc.I understand a significent investment has taken place - but the fact remains that you cannot buy atmosphere or a warm welcome or a sense that the owners/staff are glad to have you there.Hopefully the owners have deep pockets - they will need it![Report for Removal] | woolf Poynton cheshire |

| NB. Please familiarise yourself with the scoring system used on this website as I feel its a bit odd!! Visited The Sycamore for a Sunday lunch. This is the first time we had been since the recent(ish) refurbishment, and the interior is now more upmarket than previously; the establishment is definitely a resaurant rather than having a country pub feeling as before. The surroundings and atmosphere were very pleasant, though the background music in the upstairs bar area we had drinks in prior to the meal was a little intrusive. The food was of good quality and portion sizes average, though the Sunday lunchtime menu wasn't terribly extensive. The food arrived quickly considering the resaurant was fairly full and there was a large party dining. The only gripe was that the plates that the main course arrived on were barely warm so the food went cold quite quickly. Generally speaking the food was good value but drinks tended to be more in line with the prices I would expect to pay at a restaurant or bar in the city rather than the area the establishment is in. (JUST MY OPINION!) I would say that there seemed to be a good selection of drinks, but if you aren't going for a meal and just want a pint or two then perhaps try one of the more traditional pubs in the area. | We attended The Sycamore Inn on Friday 1st February for the first time since its refurbishment. What a shock, its certainly not its old style pub! We visited after reccomendation by a friend! When we arrived we were greeted and had our coats taken from us, and were then offered to have a drink in the bar or to go straight to our table, we chose to drink in the bar. I was very impressed with the range of speciality beers and lagers, or should i say my husband was! We were then offered menus to browse through before been taken to our table, we then placed our order with who seemed to be the owner, this added a very personal touch to the place. We ordered a med mix for an appetizer, this was olives, mozzarella, tomatoes and bread, great to share and i believe it was around the £3 mark, this was on our table in around 5 minutes. For starters I had the soup of the day, which was white onion and cider i ordeded this just because it sounded so different and i was very impressed. My husband ordered the pan roasted scallops, which he allowed me to try, i will definitley order them next time we visit they were delicious. For mains I chose from the specials menu the curried monkfish, the presentation of the meal was brilliant it made me not want to touch it, once i had though i enjoyed every minute of it, it was served with butter minted new potatoes and market vegetables which were very nice, it is clear that microwaves are not used here. My husband ordered the fillet steak, which he wouldnt let me try but the plate went back empty and he had a smile on his face so i can only presume he enjoyed it. For desserts we shared a cheese selection, which came with a glass of port, which i was allowed to enjoy as my husband was driving, this was delicious and was the perfect end to a lovely meal. We then sat and had coffes in the bar area infront of the fire! Once coffees were finished we decided it was time to go home although i could have sat there all night, we paid the bill and the waitress went to collect our coats and we didnt need to ask for them. We were then thanked for our custom by who i belive was the manager, this i believe was brilliant hospitality. | Friday 1st Feb 2008. First impression: nice bright place but not 'friendly' people. Menu seemed to cover several tastes, prices seemed okay. Ordered cocktails, they arrived eventually and were okay. Appetisers arrived - fine. Not sure the bread was 'homemade'. Chicken liver parfait turned out to be chicken liver pate, very ordinary. Some of the party ordered the 'specials' - that's where it went downhill. Beef stroganoff served with timbale of rice turned out to be tough beef in oily paprika powdery 'sauce' with rice, and not very hot (temperature). Chicken stuffed with black pudding turned out to be chicken stuffed with some sort of chilli paste. Linguine vongole was perhaps a little on the salty side but fine. We were asked if everything was alright with the meal so we explained that actually it wasn't etc as above. After a few minutes we were told, "sorry, we've tasted the stroganoff and the chicken and we agree with you. They will not appear on the specials menu tomorrow." We explained this was up to them but it didn't affect our evening. He ("I'm the manager by the way") suggested that we wouldn't be charged for the main meals which we accepted, we offered to pay for the linguine as it was fine. At this point we were disppointed that we had not enjoyed the food but wouldn't let it spoil our evening. We would have been happy to order a dessert had the owner not turned up. He went on to say that he hadn't agreed with our comments about the food but had agreed to not charge as we were unhappy and he wanted us to come back (dream on). I was offended by his attitude and told him politely he had just undone the good work done by his manager and we started to discuss it politely. Or so I thought until he turned on his heels as I was mid sentence!!! Bad food is one thing but bad manners is unforgivable. Things didn't improve, even the manager let us down by completely ignoring anything else we wished to say. To finish off our evening we had a bundle of coats thrust at us, none of them ours, well not until the third attempt. The ladies toilets were dark and completely free of toilet paper! Frankly, they didn't actually get much right in our opinion. The staff looked terrfied and very young. And to think we were hoping to make frequent visits. I think not. | Christmas Lunch 2007 at the Sycamore - £75 per head and very dissappointing Our party of 5 arrived at the sycamore on Christmas Day and ordered champagne whilst we selected from the menu. The menu was not very creative and offered a limited selection to start followed by a choice of Turkey, beef or Salmon. When selecting from the wine list, we ordered Chablis and enquired on the year of the ??? which was listed as 2001/2004 - which was it? We were shown to our table which had been set with the minimum of care, there was bottled water but no glasses and no red wine glasses. The glasses on the table were dirty and had to be replaced three times before a clean glass appeared. The red wine that we enquired about had already been opened and placed on the table, with no confirmation on the year, or that we even wanted it! It was poured, tasted and returned - it was thin, no body and no taste. The starters arrived and a selection of smoked fish was placed in front of my Husband. The fish cake and smoked mackerel pate was shop bought and fairly tasteless. Bread/toast was not offered. The starters were removed and replaced by what was billed on the menu as a sweet corn and basil cappuccino. This was actually a tinned sweet corn soup with a bit of froth topped with nutmeg. It hadn't been strained and was full of the bits of skin. Where would you get the idea that tinned sweet corn and basil would actually taste good together in the first place? On to main course. Turkey arrived, two slices, stuffing, chipolata sausage, gravey and burnt roast potatoes. The beef had been ordered rare. It was the thinnest sliced beef I have ever seen, looked like shoe leather, was served with a microwaved Yorkshire pudding (which would have bounced well) and the best bit.... turkey gravy - yes, overcooked roast sirloin with turkey gravy. No member of staff took the care to check with our table and I had to pick up the plate of beef and turkey gravy and take it across to the owner to let her know that it wasn’t acceptable. Christmas dinner vegetables - would you expect something a bit creative? This Christmas day lunch was served with steamed vegetables. No parsnips, red cabbage or anything else seasonal - just steamed vegetables. The dessert was more than disappointing - a miniature microwaved Christmas pudding, a miniature trifle and chocolate brownies. Sitting in the lounge afterwards, we were presented with cheese and biscuits – again you might expect some local British cheeses but only Brie, cheddar and stilton. No port offered to accompany the cheese. Coffee and shop bought mince pies followed. Brandy was ordered - a single measure of Hennessy XO - £17 per measure. I don’t think I have ever experienced a lunch – special occasion or not – where a restaurant over promised and under delivered on such a spectacular scale. The food was more of a standard expected for school dinners than £75 per head Christmas day lunch. The service was shambolic and the staff clearly inexperienced. The bill was examined and I had to ask to have the beef dish removed from the bill. I was surprised that they would actually expect us to pay for such rubbish. When my husband gave feedback to the owner the response was “everyone else enjoyed it”. The fact that most people had pre-paid might have something to do with the level of complaints received. Thankfully, we hadn’t pre-paid. We told the owner that we wouldn’t be returning – this received the response “glad to hear it sir” - outstanding! I understand that the New Year’s eve menu is £105 per head – If you have booked, think carefully – it’s a high price to pay for disappointing food, served in a pretentious environment, by inexperienced staff and arrogant owners.
