| The Cabinet at Reed has undergone several metamorphoses over the past several years so it is important to note the date of some other reviews. At one stage it is alleged to have won a Michelin star I believe! This would definitely not apply today. Presumably aiming at a highly-chic and top-quality image, the waitress was dressed in long French apron-style and the Maitress D in black and white. The bar drinks were, shockingly, close to West End prices. At this point the desired image failed and died. Our reception was polite but not by any stretch of the imagination warm. We were already disappointed even as we went to sit down for a wait of at least half an hour, to receive our starters.The service was amateurish, slovenly and almost morose. The food was, at best, pub-grub. Cheap as chips on the special lunchtime set menu (£10) but merging into the expensive and with extra charges for vegetables in the evening. On the cold day that we were there, the log-fire remained laid but stubbornly unlit - in spite of several pointed comments from our largish party to the staff! On this showing, the present incumbents have not even got it half right and perhaps, like so many others, seemingly strangely attracted to this type of business, should consider their calling. However, they will possibly be kept afloat by the considerable section of the population who seem to be, puzzlingly to me, so very easily satisfied.[Report for Removal] | Mr Jelly Royston Herts |
