| We (myself, my partner and my child) went to this pub on monday 16th june during our trip to llangrannog. We were distinctly unimpressed. It wasnt particularly busy (we got there at 12.10) we ordered food at 12.30 and our starter didnt arrive until 13.50. the main course didnt arrive until 14.30. The staff made no apologies for the lateness of the food, in fact there were people who had arrived before us who still hadnt been served by the time we had. On family who were sat next to us made 4 queries as to where their food was and each time were fobbed off with "your next" and watched several dinners go out before theirs arrived. The staff were not very friendly, neither did they seem to bothered that quite a few people and their children left having waited for an unnacceptable amount of time for their food. The food itself was nothing special, and I did not think the price justified what was on the plate. | My family and I have been visiting the Ship Inn since 2006, when we moved to Ceredigion. At that time, it was a traditional real pub (as opposed to one of the chains) serving a variety of real and local ales. The car park is right on the beach front and their used to be an honesty box, asking for £1. (I always took this to apply to tourists visiting the beach so never paid, when we were visiting the pub.) Food was lovely and it was always difficult to make a choice as all of it was so appetising! It was only basic food like lasagne, but that lasagne would have been cooked superbly well in its own individual dish, served with tasty garlic bread and a salad garnish. The garnish wasn't a sad piece of lettuce and a reluctant slice of cucumber as is so often the case, but chopped lettuce, pepper, cress and cucumber, with its own dressing. Unfortunately, in 2007 the menu changed (I think the chef changed) to more unusual, fussy dishes like ham and cheese pancakes. It became difficult to choose what to eat for an entirely different reason from before. Anyway, due to this, and the fact the pub closed for several months for refurbishment, we didn't go back until last night, 26 May 2008. Disappointingly, this little gem of a pub has been kitted out in the bland, characterless, contemporary style of pub chains. It looks a bit like the Harbourmaster in Aberaeron now, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was now owned by the same people. Anyway, we approached the bar to order our food and drinks. There was one other group of four at the bar and about 4 staff behind the bar. One of the staff was serving the other group. We stood there like lemons for about five minutes, while the staff resolutely avoided catching our eye. Therefore, unable to gain service, we left again. So unfortunately, I can't tell you what the food, drink or service was like, as we couldn't get any! I don't know why. I don't think we have faces of the child frightening variety, no studs, tattoos and we bathe fairly frequently so that can't be it! Oh yes, and we didn't express any horror at the interior when we walked in either, so we can't have caused offence on that score! I hope their summer tourist trade is good, as this family of locals that help sustain the winter trade will not be returning.
