| I ate here a few months ago and had a good, but small and expensive, steak. The owner is clearly trying hard to make it something special - we were served sorbets before our meal while still sitting in the bar which was rather weird. I went again last week and was very disappointed. This time we had soup in the bar area - it would be so much better to be served this whilst seated at your table waiting for your food.....I don't really want to be eating soup while drinking a gin and tonic! We ordered venison pie expecting something hearty and gamey - we got bland, dried out meat in a bland thin sauce with a piece of puffed pastry plonked on top, this is NOT a pie. It was served with 3 veg - mashed potato, mashed swede and cauliflower so overcooked it was also sort of mashed. The entire selection of veg could be eaten with no teeth. The wine was good and good value. The food was very overpriced and of a low standard. It is a real shame as there is a gap in the market in Carmarthen for places to eat in the evening. The owner seems to be pitching for a 'fine-dining' type experience but the food is not good enough to carry this off - with main courses of over £15 it's got to be good. I have a number of friends in the area who were excited when this place opened and, after one visit decided not to go back.
