| We recently ate here and were a bit put off at first by how quiet it was for a Friday evening. We soon changed our mind as the lady behind the bar was very welcoming and chatty. My husband enjoyed the real ale. The wine list offers a good choice and is very reasonable. I had the chicken fajitas which were delicious and served on a sizzling plate and my husband had The Blackbird Grill - very filling! We are going to try the Christmas menu with our families and will proably use the pub more next summer as it has a large beer garden perfect for the children.[Report for Removal] | Helen and Jim Stockcross Berkshire |

| I have just had my christmas meal at The blackbird.Superb. Its only November but we cannot have a staff do in December So the landlords bought christmas forward just for us decorations ,songs etc.... | What is Rob talking about?? We went there for dinner on Saturday nigh.The food was home cooked, The service was superb, the pub was filled with happy relaxed customers. We shall be going again and again and I am sure we will not be disappointed the pub is advertised as a traditional country pub and I can only say that with log fires and warm welcolmes it definately is that!!!!! | I recently ate at The Blackbird Inn before going on to see the show at the watermill theatre. I was with seven friends and we had to have eaten by 7.15pm so we that we would not miss the start of the show. We were served delicious food (I had the lasagne) given a warm welcome and charged more than reasonable prices and all in time for us to see the show. | I have nothing but good praises for this pub, I myself have visited more than 10 times since the new owners arrived last Decemeber, the food is well cooked, ample portioned and a reasonable price with a great varied selection,the atmosphere is friendly,the pub is clean and smoke free, what a blessing to eat your meal without the smell of stale smoke. I suggest you try the homemade Pies, Chilli or steaks, infact I have had a diffent meal each time and have yet to find fault, Don't just take my word for it, give it a go. | Having visited this pub 12 times over the past 5 years I am appalled at how it has been run into the ground over the past 18 months. They boast that the food is Home Cooked - Reheated Yes Home Made - Definitely NO. My Wife had the Beef Sunday Lunch that was tougher than my leather belt, My 3yr old had Chicken Nuggets that were dreadful! My Lasagne was oily, burnt and had an awful aftertaste. Surely you say the Beer must have been better but I'm afraid it was only as good as the food. The Cola was flat and the juices poor quality. I will not be going back ever again as I'm not sure they know how to run a pub or kitchen. There are much better pubs in Newbury but not many worse.[Report for Removal] | Robin Newbury Berkshire |
