The setting and interior of the Royal Oak is second to none. The view across the harbour is beautiful whatever time of year or tide.To sit outside on a warm summers evening with your feet dangling over the edge of the quay with a cold glass of their Sauvignon is heaven. As a pub I would rate it highly. I am never too sure about the sincerity of the publican's friendliness and you tend to be made to feel at home if a local. However I do not reccomend that you eat there. I have had 3 disappointing meals over the past couple of years. I have been keen each time they bring out a new menu to give it another chance. I tried the garlic doughballs on my first visit which were rock solid and obviously microwaved. A year later I tried the dough balls again.Yet again they were microwaved and solid. we sent them back and the next lot were just the same. On returning to eat last week we had to wait an hour for a sharing plate that cost over £9 and consisted of half a pint of defrosted mushy spawning prawns and a bowl of over fried big whitebait (or small sardines - not sure which!), 3 dips and ONE piece of bread cut in half - Neither good value, good food or good service! Stick to only drinking there and admiring the view![Report for Removal] Lex
