| Stopped by on bank holiday monday and the pub was very busy with lots of walkers, cyclists and yachties. Staff were obviuosly stressed, and not very welcoming. Ordered a simple snack of 2 Bacon Baps and a portion of chips. What arrived was appalling, the bacon was burnt, the bread (a sesame seed bun) very dry almost bordering on stale. We immediately complained and to thier credit they replaced the total order, but the bread was still the same, and having paid £5.50 for 2 rashers of bacon slapped in a poor roll, with half a packet of crisps, we eat what we could and gave up and moved on. We have visited the ship a number of times of the last few years, and have to say that the food has never been great, and on this visit a number of people were leaving food on thier plates. Also as highlighted elsewhere the welcome is not that great. its a real shame the location is good, but I think the captive audience and popularity means thay don't really need to try that hard. In comparison, today we visited the King & Queen in Hamble, and the food was excellent, cheaper and the service superb.[Report for Removal] | Martin Portsmouth Hants |

| Things must have changed, as we had a excellent meal. Having been told by friends that they had a great time at the ship we had to go and see. They were right, we arived on a extremely busy saturday evening and we sat almost straight away, I started with the pressed Ox tounge and my partner with the Smoked salmon &crab egg mayonaise which were delightfull, i followed with Grilled lemon Sole with Ratte potatoes & asparagus which had been cooked perfectly my friend opted for the Lamb with baby roast potatoes, no room for desert but a second bottle of rose. What can be only described as excellent espicialy as they were increadibly busy.[Report for Removal] | Dez chichester west sussx |

| We visited this pub whilst walking the Salterns Way, at lunchtime on a January Thursday. We had our little daughter with us in a push chair. Straight away we were asked to move to take up a smaller table. The menu was really overpriced, and the food mediocre to say the least. The baguettes were nearly £8, served with some out of the freezer chips, and a salad garnish - meaning a very small offering of limp leaves. The baguettes were the part baked and finished off ones (which they were charging £1.20 for if they were bought just as a side order). The owners were a little offhand. The landlord made some out of place comments about the family group who had just left, along with their little children. Everything seemed like a bit too much trouble for them. Strangely, the sachets of sauces and condiments were kept outside the front door in the lobby, so diners had to go outside to get some vinegar etc. I thought this was distinctly below average and would recommend people take their custom elsewhere.[Report for Removal] | Gill Bullock Wellington Herefordshire |

| Sunday lunch was so busy that we had to wait over an hour for our meal. When it came we had 6 potatoes between 9 of us. + The veg come out at a different time to our meat. Another member of our group who cannot eat cream had cream all over his meal! They said they would give us a discount for all the problems. But they got our order muddled with someone else's and tried to charge us more. One of the bar staff was really rude when we pointed this out. Very disappointing.....I think they get so busy they start not to care about customer service.[Report for Removal] | laura Surbiton Surrey |
