A lovely old pub, recently refurbished to a high standard. The selection of beers and ales available is impressive and we enjoyed the local Skew Ale. We enjoyed a bar lunch of filled baguettes which was tasty and reasonably priced - so much so that we decided to return a few weeks later for a special occasion meal in the evening. This was a mistake. The food in the restaurant (what there was of it) was well prepared but totally inadequate. We are not big eaters but we don’t expect to leave the restaurant hungry after paying what we did for the food. After we were served we waited for the vegetables to be brought, until it dawned on us that the plate decoration was ‘the vegetables’. The portions were tiny; the vegetables (the cheapest part of any meal) were virtually non-existent and the meals seemed to bear little resemblance to the description on the menu. The deserts too, whilst tasty, were skimpy in the extreme. We felt we couldn't complain at the time because it would have spoiled the occasion. We won't be going back. A friendly, family run pub with a good variety of guest ales. Food is pleasant and well presented and there is an historical atmosphere in this 18th century building where Eisenhower and Montgomery went for a drink during World War II.[Report for Removal] Edward James WHEELER
