| New owners have taken over who are very professional and friendly. I went with a group of friends from work at lunchtime and the food was not only excellent but also great value for money (10 wholetail scampi & chips in the basket for £3.95) and 9 of us had our meals on the table within 15 mins. Went back with different friends on Friday night and the place was heaving, great atmosphere. Took Mum & Dad for Sunday lunch and it was excellent. The beef was to die for, fresh vegetables and plenty of them and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I think Will may have caught them "prior" to new owners. I would personally highly recommend this place. [Report for Removal] | Elizabeth Newton Fareham Hants |

| My freinds family, a party of five in total, invited me out for Sunday dinner knowing that on previous visits to this pub that the food was good. It had been almost two years since their last visit. We arrived at the front of the pub where one of the staff was out having a cigarette. We enquired to whether Sunday lunch was still being served or not as it was about 2.15pm and lunches finished at 2.30pm. She said yes so we started to get out the car. As we got out the car, a gentleman who we assume to be the landlord come to the door and told us there was plenty of chicken and pork but only one beef. We decided to go in, went to the bar, purchased a round of drinks and took a seat. The landlord took our order for one beef, three chickens and a pork sunday lunch. After a short while he returned holding the plates with a tea towel as if they were hot and placed them on th table. The food was tepid to say the least. Each plate had 2 little roast potatoes which were burnt and a dried Yorkshire pudding and warm meat all covered in a congealing gravy. This was accompanied with three dishes of luke warm vegetables. My friends Dad complained to the landlord and askd if he could have his dinner hot to which he replied "We will hve to microwave it, which we are not in th practice of doing and I assure you hat all our food is tested by probe before it comes out of the kitchen" If that was the case, our food would have been hot. Two dinners ended up being microwaved and the veg all left on the table. Upon collecting the plates, the landlord did not enquire to whether we enjoyed the meal or not. We were all speechless when he asked if we would like any desserts or coffees!!! We obviously declined and decided to leave. When my friends Dad went to pay the bill, he was offered no reduction or discount and in fact was insulted to be asked "did you pay for your drinks?" which we had paid for on arrival. | I liked The Golden Lion because it has a more traditional feel to it with a good range of beer and a good menu. It is well run by Miles who keeps it nice and clean and who won't allow riff raff in, but beware the golden oldies on wednesday evenings :] [Report for Removal] | Tony the kiwi Farham Hampshire |
