We were in town for a long weekend, staying in a B&B. We decided to avoid driving in the evenings and so ate in 2 pubs and a restaurant. Overall we found the Earl of Chatham to be dissapointing. Very quiet and food wasn't very tasty. I know it's the quiet season but this place was just too quiet for a Saturday. Also, we had a rather smelly dog hanging around our table for much of the time, is it legal to allow dogs into pubs that do food?[Report for Removal] Helen Carter

holidayed in lostwithiel recently and thought the earl of chatham were the best pub there.contrary to some other peoples views we found peter and sharon(the liecensees)to be excellent hosts who went out of their ways to accommodate our holiday party which included adults, children and 2 dogs.the rattler cider were awesome and i found the steak in garlic butter to be first class.well done to all and good luck for the future.mr[Report for Removal] mr paul shaw

Not a place worth visiting. It's very quiet, new tennant seems ambivalent towards customers. Don't imagine the kitchen can do enough meals to warrent heating up the chip-pan! If you want a drink try the Globe Inn or the King's Arms, if you want a meal the the Grapevine or, if in a car, drive 2 miles to Linlivery where there is the fantastic Church House Inn. But forget the Chatham, it's seen better days![Report for Removal] Pete Taylor

We visited the Earl of Chatham on a Friday night at about 8.00 (Sept 08). There was no-one else there except a drunk and abusive old man propping up the bar. Unfortunately we were hungry and didn't read the warning signs. We ordered some food (which arrived very quickly) but was TERRIBLE!. Meat was tough and stringy but worst of all were the chips which tasted as if they had been cooked a week in advance! Please avoid this place. It's dredful![Report for Removal] Martin Morris

The food was the best pub meal we've ever had In fact we ate there again at lunch time and in the evening of our 2nd night stay. Pete and Sharon the landlord and landlady are very friendly and welcoming. The pub is on the other side of the river outside the main the town and we had a lovely walk to and from the pub on both our nights out in Lostwithiel. The pub was very quiet on both occassions (we think its because the pub is not advertised well in the town). However, for us that was not a problem as it means we found a very cosy hidden gem. The Earl of Chatham is full of character and there is a beautiful open fire place in the lounge area - which we were assured in winter would be lit. If you want a traditional pub in keeping with the surroundings then if you're venturing to Lostwithiel this is a must. We can highly recommend the steak, gammon, steak and tribute pie and without doubt the Sunday Roast( which was served with real Roast Potatoes). The food is fresh and homemade and the chips are homemade too - Aunt Bessie did not make an appearance at any point which made a pleasant change to one who dines out frequently.[Report for Removal] Paul Rodd
