| Visited 17/11/07 on walk back from Royal Oak, Meavy where we should have stayed! As we entered Skylark the young female barstaff rudely pointed out that we only had 15mins to closing time 1500. 4 beers on hand pull: Tetley, Tribute, Otter Ale, Directors. Our party tried Tribute & Otter, both of which were far from clear and had that murky taste. The cellar temperature was also far too cold. Real Ale in a glass should not form condensation on the outside like a chilled lager. Our girls said the ladies loo was dirty and smelled awful. That says it all really! I suppose the pub sign should have given us a clue. If they can't get that right what hope is there? Skylarks nest on the ground! I didn’t see your reviews until now! | I have just come from having possibly one of the worst lunch experiences ever. Just being in a nice location does not mean that you shouldn't make an effort with your customers. The food was ok, overpriced for what it is, the staff were downright rude and made no effort whatsoever. It's not like the pub was overly busy and yet we were made to feel stupid for not knowing what table we were going to sit outside. I know it's a country pub, but come on this was unbelieveable. | Possibly the worst 'food' I have ever eaten in a pub since 1984! And it doesn't look or feel as if it has been cleaned since then either. The place was filthy, thick dust building up on every surface bar, sticky table surfaces, cobwebs hanging everywhere, yellow nicotine stained artex walls, dirty windows. The smell of dogs and stale tobacco was only overpowered by that of the deep fried, overpriced, unadventurous yellow food. The staff were extremely rude, even to the point of taking my car keys should i 'forget' to pay. In retrospect We should have left there and then. if you are blind with no sense of smell or taste, you might enjoy the Skylark (providing you don't bump into any of the unfriendly staff).
