| After not visiting Peterborough for a few years I went back and decided to visit The Chequers,my first impresion was that it must be in the process of being wound down for sale,it was very bare and basic, very noisy, sorry rowdy,the pub I used to know was a buisy upmarket food house and decorated to a very high standard,not anymore, food is no longer part of it as the whole place is dominated by large and overlarge television screens and unrecocniseable locals bellowing at them,a jukebox so loud that you had to shout at each other to communicate, the windows had cream roller blinds which remind me of hospital and doctors waiting rooms and the same with the walls which were also cream and bare.the night I visited customers were told "no bitter" I was served a brandy in a highball glass.All in all not a pub to visit again.I can honestly say that The Chequers used to be a lovely pub but now it has really gone down hill, I should know I had the pleasure of being the Landlady of The Chequers 15 years ago.[Report for Removal] | Mrs C Dodd Nottingham Nottinghamshire |
