| We were looking forward to our pre-Christmas meal out with a friend from Kingham who suggested Th Plough Inn, Kingham her new "gastro" pub. We were served a very nice English wine and then ordered a main course from the slightly odd menu, and as we are not meat eaters and the vegetarian dish was a decidedly boring potato pancake with mushrooms (no salad or veg) we ordered the poached sea bream, which was served with vegetables only (not unusual but as all the other dishes had a potato element was a bit surprising). The bream arrived and when we cut into it was cold (we realised it was poached at a low temperature but this was cold as if it was only just defrosted)and uncooked in the middle, so we asked the waiting staff politely to take it back explaining it was not cooked and it was cold. Without a hint of apology the waitress took the plates away and spoke to the chef and we were informed the fish would be pan-fried to cook it through. The dishes were returned (with the same veg and potato which we had ordered as a side order) to the wrong people on the table and was still cold in the middle. We then called the waitress over (who was even more sullen) and she took it away again. We then waited a further 20 minutes and instead of being served a new fish were presented with the same, now shrivelled up fish, again to the wrong people and again with the same vegetables. Insenced with the delays, lack of apologies and poor service we asked to speak to the chef/proprieter who offered no apology and just told us that we basically coul not be pleased. At this point we decided to leave the restaurant as we had had enough. The staff then had the gall to ask us not to return - which we readily agreed to. On entering the other pub in the village we gathered this was by no means the first time people had left the Plough disgusted with the attitude and quality of service. As this rate The Plough will go out of business next year.[Report for Removal] | M Hollingsworth Milton-under-Wychwood Oxon |
