| We had a warm welcome to a cold pub. Although the fire was soon lit and started to warm up. The menu looked appetising for pub grub so we decided to stay for a meal. Good selection on the menu with the addition of a specials board. I was undecided on the starter so I thought I would let the manageresss recommend for me (usually works well). The choice was Humous with olives and salad. But when this arrived guess what there was no olives. The reply to my question of "where are the olives" was "we have run out". The rest of the food was ok but what a disappointment for a recommendation of a starter. [Report for Removal] | Bigedd Beccles Suffolk |

| Went to the White Lion for the first time last week for a drink and we received a lovely warm welcome from Tim the owner who greeted us with a cheery good evening and then made sure we were comfortable. We shall certainly go back, lovely fire, magazines, squashy sofas and great bar service! Going to eat there Xmas Eve. Shall write another review then.[Report for Removal] | dollymum Pakefield Suffolk |

| We had recently returned to the pub after the previous manager had left and must compliment the current chef for his fine cuisine. It is now a treat to go to the Wheatacre White Lion for a meal as the food is so much more varied and the menu changes every week. The whole atmosphere is so relaxing and beautiful for a trip out for us with or without chidren. The owners are certainly looking after all the locals by encouraging offers in the new year for old age pensioners and those of us who like to eat out occasionally without breaking the bank. Compliments to them for maintaining such a high standard for their customers. Quite refreshing in these troubled times. A Must Visit on your list[Report for Removal] | Postle Worlingham Suffolk |

| My wife and I were coming back from Southwold and decided to visit the Wheatacre White Lion after being recommended by a friend and we must say that we were very impressed with the quality of the food and the service. The food was delicious and I had the most succulent steak and ale pie and the only complaint we had was that there was so much of it but it was very good. The service was extremely good with the staff being very attentive the minute we walked in and throughout our meal. The atmosphere was very conducive to a very enjoyable evening out on Good Friday and it is so relaxing to be able to have a good meal and at the same time be in such a good surroundings; it is certainly worth seeking out. We only wish it was nearer to us. G. King Southwold[Report for Removal] | G.King Southwold Norfolk |

| I am a very regular of The White Lion and since they have started business in the village, it has been a godsend for us locals to have such good food and service and in times of the credit crunch, you can be guaranteed a decent meal and value for money. I read Mr. Button's comments and note that he has repeatedly added criticism of the restaurant and I feel very protective of the valuable service the pub has given to the village in giving a new lease of life and employment in the area and I cannot help wondering why Mr. Button kept going back to the pub for food if he is so unhappy as to constantly making complaints. We do not agree with him and hope he will stop being a nuisance to the staff and we certainly hope he will not see the need to return to the pub if he is that unhappy with the food and service. We wish the staff and establishment great success in what they are doing. there is always one in a million like Mr. Button. Keep it up Wheatacre White Lion!! R. Evans Beccles[Report for Removal] | R. | We ordered a beef roast and a nut roast. When asked if everything was OK with our meal, I politely suggested to the waitress I felt the food was not as higher standard as previous experiences, and wishing to back up my statement I mentioned the nut loaf had changed. Having worked in a pub kitchen I suspected it to be brought in from Brakes, and believed it looked home made on a previous occasion. A few minutes later, what I believe to be the restaurant manager came over to our table rudely implying I was categorically wrong, and that the nut loaf had always been served like that. I politely maintained I was only answering the waitress’s question honestly and politely. The chef returned a few minutes later, also making me out to be a “fool” saying the previous nut loaf was also brought in (I feel it was significantly tastier) and no one else had complained, making me feel unwelcomed and insignificant. When mentioning the cauliflower was hard, the Yorkshire puddings were tough and the roast potatoes uncooked in the middle, he said he’d look into it and stormed off. Also i think the beef is brought in pre sliced. We paid and left feeling it was not its usual value for money. We also fancied deserts. Additionally, I visited your pub on Friday 28th November, ordering a steak and ale pie, and found the cauliflower to be discoloured and off smelling. I left it and didn’t complain as I believed it was a one off and only a small part of the meal. [Report for Removal] | Jack Button Beccles Suffolk |

| I booked to go go to the White Lion after seeing an impressive article by the Eastern Daily Press on one of their food reviews for good pubs and I must say that I fully agree with the contents of the Article on the 8th of November 2008 when they described the place as having got it just right where people can feel very welcomed and comfortable there whether they are there for a posh pub meal or just drinking a very serious selection of wines and of course the Norfolk favourites; Adnams. It is indeed a jewel in the deepest south of Norwich and I had a very good meal there and would love to have the pub nearby . Cathy Dickson[Report for Removal] | Sarah Dickson Bungay Norfolk |

| I have now had several pleasant eating experiences at the White Lion, with the food always being fresh, homemade and local, with well presented good sized portions - A past gap in the local market! Regards pricing, yes you can go to a chain pub and get 2 meals for £8 in 5 minutes(microwaved, tasteless and bought in) but i firmly believe here is a case of paying for what you get. However, i do agree with the people saying the layout of the bar area may not be inviting for those wishing to "pop in" for a quiet pint/coffee. Perhaps a lounge area (sofa's and a coffee table)and bar stools would be beneficial. I wish them luck in the future.[Report for Removal] | Jack Button Beccles Suffolk |

| I visited the White Lion the weekend before last and had a delightful time. The building is beautiful and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. I do not feed my children chicken nuggets etc at home and would not want to pay for them to eat badly, when a meal out should be a treat for all the family. The menu at the White Lion is the perfect answer, both my children ate really well and loved their meals. The food was fresh and delicious, and there was a wide variety of options to choose from. My husband and I will definately be coming back, whether it is for a family meal or a drink in the cosy bar area.[Report for Removal] | J Cowe Norwich Norfolk |

| We are local farmers and we have visited the pub/restaurant several times a week and thoroughly enjoyed our meals there. What a refreshing change to the run of the mill pubs; we now have a beautifully restored pub/restaurant with beautiful food. Just to say that we believe there are some locals here who believe in sabotaging the success of the pub as there had been a few objectors to the pub being revived as a fully functional pub instead of providing what a few locals want for their selfish reasons; a cheap drink and games all night. As it is, there are regular locals who come in for their dominoes and have a good time each week. It is sad that some people had nothing to do with their lives than be resentful of others trying to provide a service to the community as it is the last pub standing in the three villages. It is petty of some of those who try to find something wrong with the pub because they are bitter at losing the day at the hearing for the licence. | My husband and I went for our first meal on Saturday 27th September. As we live in Burgh St Peter and both work full time we were interested to see if the food would be worth returning for a repeat visit when we don't want to cook. Our observations were that as the restaurant (not pub) has only been up and running for three weeks or so we are going to give it another go. As all the tables in the bar and restaurant were booked out for meals this isn't going to be somewhere you could go for a drink unless you go later in the evening at the weekends when some of the people having meals have left. We did have to wait over an hour for our meal but I'm hoping this is just teething problems as the White Lion settles into a routine. I think after the White Lion has been up and running for say six months then a review of what it is actually like will be more realistic.[Report for Removal] | Jackie Cowin Beccles Norfolk |

| would just like to reply to our critic. no mirrows in toilets (builders still on site finnishing off all of the minor details snack food sandwiches etc are served every day except sundays due to the large volume of sunday lunch customers, we do not serve jacket potatoes as we would rather leave them for spud u like them Kids food we choose not to have a childrens menu full of junk food instead we offer 95% of our menu as half portions for children that way we serve them healthy nutritious food.like the public meeting held prior to our licencing application we are not being given a chance, by the way our prices are reflected by the market and locals are using our pub and booking parties. | I run a chain of local hotels in Norfolk and have visited the White Lion. I was very impressed with the ambience; the quality of food and the excellent service. I believe the Chef is promoting a green and ethical option of eating out by encouraging children to eat off the menu but at discounted price and at smaller portions. I will not be surprised to see this pub featured in the Good Food guide before long if they get their advertising right. Good Luck to them.[Report for Removal] | Tan Bee Choo Norwich Norfolk |

| I have been a customer to the White Lion for well over 30 years and as it had been sold recently and closed for some months called in on Sunday with friends to check it out. Although the new owners have spent an awful lot of money on improvements, i.e. a restaurant, it looks really nice inside, but we were not too impressed with the menu available. It seemed quite expensive and the range of food on offer did not seem to cater for children or anything suitable for a quick 'pub' lunch, i.e. sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc. It is not a pub now, but a restaurant, and having spoken to several locals who used to enjoy a drink & chat at the White Lion, they felt they were not the type of customers welcome there. The White Lion is off the beaten track and you really need to have something special to draw the punters in. Also, the Bar Person (male)! Lack of personality, and maybe he could try giving a bit of a warm welcome to customers when they call in! It could make all the difference. Unfortunatley we will not be calling in there in the future. Just a little point of detail - could the ladies' toilet have a mirror on the wall! It was the first thing I noticed which should have been there.[Report for Removal] | Solomon Beccles Suffolk |
