My husband and I have just returned from a week away on the Norfolk Broads. During this time we found many extremely good pubs to eat at, in fact some have changed hands since our last visit 4 years ago and are far better than they were. Sadly this cannot be said for the Maltsters at Ranworth. We arrived at lunch time and firstly found the surroundings and decor rather 'tatty' but as the weather was good we sat outside, the service was pretty slow and we ordered a couple of baguettes - one cheese and one ham as we had had some beautiful ham at various other pubs during the week. When they eventually arrived the ham was awful, slimy, fatty and like rubber, I could not eat it so my husband said he would have it and gave me his cheese baguette. He took one mouthful and agreed wholeheartedly with me that the ham was awful so we left it and shared the cheese, the cheese was pretty grotty as well tasteless and rather plastic and the baguettes were also of a poor quality. When the waitress took our plates she noticed the ham baguette had not been eaten and asked if everything was OK? When my husband mentioned that the ham was horrible she said she would tell the chef, we thanked her for this. She returned a while later and said the chef had told her the ham was fine and had been delivered by the local butcher - to which my husband remarked that perhaps they should change to another butcher!! The waitress asked what we wanted to do and my husband suggested that a refund for the ham baguette would be in order, she then returned to the chef and came back with the message that he would not consider a refund as the ham was fine. We felt a bit sorry for the waitress as she obviously felt awkward but had no say in the matter, she offered to get the chef out to speak to us but we declined as we did not want to make a major issue out of the situation. I would not recommend anybody vist this pub as the food and customer service if far from acceptable.[Report for Removal] Penny

Fair point made but its important to remember that the pub closed with the last owner going bankrupt in December 2008. Punch were unable to find tenants so we were asked to open the pub for them which we did with just 7 days notice on 1st May, The pub had been totally stripped and of course there were no staff. Now I think that most people would rather that it opened in any form rather than stayed closed throughout 2009 but clearly not veryone shares my view. Recruiting staff takes about a month if they have to give notice to another employer. This has now been done. In a busy pub like this its impossible to predict how busy you will be particularly when you have no historical trading information.[Report for Removal] Kevin Hunt

Nice location, improving decor, but APPALLING SERVICE! It lacked the staff to cope with busy cooking orders, leaving customers waiting for an hour and a quarter to be served food on a Sunday afternoon (estimate given was 1/2 hour). Service at the bar was also slow, and this led to many customers left waiting, or going to the tea house over the road. Next time you visit the Broads and go to this pub at peak times, don't be in a hurry to catch the next boat home....[Report for Removal] Peter
