| We arrived at 12.30pm to an empty, cold, unlit place - we should have turned back then - to be served at the bar by the chef/owner. The menu was very poor and the one thing that I fancied had run out!! The mussels that he was advertising on a sandwich board outside was also off the menu, we were obviously the first customers of the day. My husband ordered fish and chips and I decided on the soup, tomato. The cutlery arrived in the middle of the table, dirty and accompanied with dreadfully tatty place mats. Firstly the soup tasted as if he'd just whizzed up a tin of chopped tomatoes and the only seasoning being some dried herbs sprinkled in however the small piece of ciabatta was very nice. My husbands fish was quite nice but was spoilt by the undercooked oven chips that had been sprinkled with the chefs own mixture(not mentioned on the menu). It tasted like Aromat to me. His wife was wandering to and fro with her small daughter coughing and spluttering over everything and didn't even acknowledge us. When he asked how my husbands meal was, he replied that he didn't like the seasoning on the chips, he seemed offended and just said, "oh well, it's obviously just not your bag" and left it at that. We couldn't get out of there quick enough. When we went to the Ruperra a couple of years ago under different management, it was professionally run, food was excellent and lovely friendly staff.
