Our party of 4 looked forward to a quiet celebration of our friend's birthday. The Griffin Inn had recently been very tastefully refurbished and although there was no pianist in the conservatory this time we knew the ambiance and lovely friendly staff would give us an enjoyable evening. This was my 5th visit to the restaurant. Unfortunately it will be my last. All was going swimmingly well until the 4 of us tried to cut into our Fillet steaks. Ray (proprieter) gave us sharper knives. Justine (Ray's son) had the chef 'butterfly' the meat in hope we all could proceed to eat it..but to no avail. We later learnt that the 2 diners at the table next to us had had the same problem with their steaks. It was agreed with Ray we would accept a discount of 4 main courses for the price of 2 (£15.50 x 2). For the starters, price of 2 main courses, sweets and 3 coffee's the bill came to £80.29 . Drinks were paid for seperately. I remember on my 2nd visit back in July'07 (wedding anninversary) 8 of us went for a meal and we were charged for 2 bottles of wine we had not received. This was sorted out quickly by the staff . Upon my recommendation we had the crepe suzette as a sweet and these were duly served to us from the kitchen stone cold as they each had been draped over a scoop of ice cream. Also the menu stated they would be prepared at our table, but I guess they were busy. We would not have ordered them had we known this was the case. 3rd visit in October' 07 for my birthday with a friend found us both ordering the fish. Far too pricey for the dishes that were served. No taste to speak of other than the chilli that we came across. [Report for Removal] Sue Folwell
