Four of us ate the carvery here on Sunday 10th May 2009 and will not be repeating the experience. It cost £6.95 adults/£4.95 children which would have been fair enough for a good meal, but that was not what we got. The carvery serving area was scruffy and dirty and we had several minutes to take it all in whilst waiting for the "chef" to put in an appearance, by which time there were another six people queuing behind us. There was a notice dated early 2008 awarding the place four stars for hygiene;it did not deserve any stars when we visited. There were tired-looking slices of beef and pork (the pork slices for some reason were in a container of water and were served dripping water onto the plates). The chef looked like he was in need of a good scrub and brush up and the vegetables looked just as unappetising-undercooked boiled potatoes, burnt roast potatoes, dried out diced carrots, peas and a few pale fragments of cabbage leaves floating in a container of water (I asked a waitress who came through from the kitchen if there was any more cabbage-she went back in the kitchen to check and came back and said no)...you expect a bit more of a vegetable selection than that for a carvery. The tables where we ate were not clean and the whole place had a run down uncared for look about it. They have a sign outside claiming to be the best carvery in Edwinstowe-it's either untrue or local standards are very low! Even my pint of beer had an unidentified floating object bobbing about in it which I scooped out (a piece of plastic wrapper I think). I wish I had complained to staff at the time, but I got the impression they knew the whole dining and drinking experience there were offering was poor, but just didn't care, so long as they were getting people in to make money from. This is definitely a pubwedidn'tlike.[Report for Removal] L. Zimbabwe

I rang up on wednesday to book a meal for mothers day, i said i needed 3 vegi meals ,and a vegan meal for my mum i was told on the phone that the chef would sort something out for her, when we got there on sunday i was told by the staff that the vegan meal would have to have to be just veg , this is 2009 not 1970. The vegi meal was potatoes with leeks and cheese sauce which was very bland as was the veg and potatoes. if we had just turned up i could understand but i had booked and made them aware of my requirements. very disappointing[Report for Removal] Mrs j Rogers

Blimey. I’ve not been to the Robin Hood, and being based in the West Country my experience of the pubs down here might not be considered representative of the pub trade as a whole across the country. But if you can expect to find a good carvery meal in Nottingham for two adults and a child for half of £15.50, I’m on my way up![Report for Removal] The Red Bandolier

My family visited the Robin Hood today for the "best carvery in town". I think we went to the wrong town! At £5.95 each for 2 adults and £3.50 for our 3 year old it is certainly at the expensive end of the current carvery market so we had high expectations. Sadly we were very, very disappointed. The gammon was excellent but there the good parts end. The beef was too well done for my personal taste, it was impossible to tell the difference between the roast potatoes and the boiled potatoes, the carrots were passable, the cabbage was watery and tasteless and the only other vegetable option was what appeared to be a supermarket budget mixed vegetable consisting mainly of sweetcorn and more carrots. The stuffing ball was as unappetising as it looked and for the first time in my life I had a Yorkshire Pudding that was harder than the plate it was served on! When the waitress asked if our meal was ok, I was brutally honest with her that it is probably the worst carvery I have ever had. Her response was "Was it hot enough?" She offered to pass on our comments to the chef but in the 10 or 15 minutes it took us to finish our drinks and leave there was no feedback. At twice the price of most lunchtime carveries, The Robin Hood really needs to pull it's socks up. As a family, we certainly will not be going back. [Report for Removal] Paul Shieber
