| My wife and I were staying in that dump called cresswell caravan park and had seen the plough on our way in, on Tuesday 17th May 2011 we called in for a pint and v and coke, we went in the bar were there was locals. I have never enjoyed a drink or two so much, the locals made us very welcome and we had a great laugh at the barmaids expence, (sorry)she and maths don't go together, she needs more fingers and toes, the banter was good, they even have a bog seat on the wall. | My wife and I often visit the Plough and consider it to be our local pub. Its a friendly and well run establishment that affords the greatest of hospitality and even the cold winds and snow of winter fade into insignificance once you step inside. | I stopped in at the The Plough Inn the other day and had a lovely visit. Obviously the previous review was an old one as the pub has been refurbished and has a new landlady who has completely changed the place. The bar area looks great and the beer was delicious (Abbot Ale) and very reasonably priced for the location. It has a gorgeous lounge area with fireplace and a charming restaurant area, though they don't start serving food until the beginning of January. The landlady gave us a little tour and we saw the fantastic new kitchen and a sneak preview of the new menu. | We went to The Plough having seen a sign along the roadside stating that it was the best pub food on the coastal route - how wrong this was!We went on Wednesday 20th August whilst holidaying at nearby Cresswell. When we entered the pub, it was very busy and the staff were stressed out. On speaking to them they said it had been quiet earlier in the week so there were no waitresses on but there had been an influx of around 100 covers. Whilst waiting to place a food order, the family in front were complaining that the Sea Bass they had ordered, whilst lovely, had not had the advertised vegetable medley served with it, and were told that as the pub had been so busy, they had run out of most of the vegetables. As patrons paid for food at time of order they were asked if they would like some free desserts. There was a blackboard listing at least 8 desserts, and when the family stated which they would like they were informed that actually there was only one now available, and were understandably unhappy with this. I ordered our food and we waited an hour and a quarter for it! All around us we were hearing snippets of conversations between serving staff and patrons - apologising that they could only serve mushy peas instead of garden peas, with everything, apologising that they had run out of vegetable medley and then presented a table with a huge bowl of broccolli.. When our food finally arrived, my daughter of ten years old took one bite of her chicken nuggets and told me they were't cooked. When I picked the one up she had bitten into it was frozen in the centre. I alerted the staff and they brought the plate back within a few minutes, with very hot nuggets but the mushy peas were by that time stone cold. My mother had ordered fish and chips and her peas were stone cold. The lettuce on her plate was all brown so we alerted the staff who said they would tell the chef. No more lettuce was brought out to replace this. I had ordered the lasagne with red wine sauce. When I cut into it I had great difficuly trying to find the meat, there were a few 'red' bits of mince alongside balls of what looked like meat paste in an 'off brown' colour. I told the staff I could not possibly eat it and ordered the curry and rice, which was actually ok. All around us we heard people complaining and we felt sorry for the serving staff as it wasn't their fault. No-one came to ask us if everything was alright nor took away the 'bad' lettuce. After our meals I went to the bar and asked the staff to ask the chef if he would eat the lettuce on that plate himself. She told me she had mentioned it to him and he had sent his apolgies, however, she had only given them to me when I mentioned it again. I said how disgusted we were with the quality of the food and the fact that my daughter could have been seriously ill, and that had we not paid for the food up front, we would not have paid for it at all, and requested a refund. The staff just shrugged their shoulders in dismissal. I would urge anyone to go elsewhere, and I will now be contacting Environmental Health and Trading Standards.
