I attended your pub/restaurant on Wed 2/7/08 for the first time after a recommendation by friends. My first impression was that it was a lovely looking venue with superb views and that I would like to bring my parents along. We ordered a drink at the bar and the lady behind the bar was very pleasant. We were shown to our table, given 2 menus(although there were 4 of us) and then waited for at least 10-15 mins before our order was taken. My friend asked what the pie of the day was and the waitress replied "I don't know no one has ordered it today yet", a silence then followed before she eventually said "Do you WANT me to find out?". The waitress left the table without giving us a chance to order any wine so we called a young waiter over and asked him if we could order some wine please. His reply was "What kind do you want?" Before I was given the chance to ask for the list my young friend said we would have a bottle of the house red. This was subsequently plonked on the table, with the lid still on and with the words " Here is your wine". The starters arrived and were enjoyable, The main course followed. Several minutes later our waitress asked if everyting was ok with our meal. My friend said "actually my wife doesn't like her mash" to which the waitress replied "Oh well you can always leave that" and then after a silence said "Or do you want m to bring another plate so that you can put it on". I had a burger which was cooked very well with stilton and red onion jam, my friend had a sirloin steak which she said was cooked to perfection but we both agreed that the home made chips were the worst we had ever tasted and that they made McCains oven chips seem exquisite in comparison. The beef and ale pie was tasty enough had it not been swimming in a sea of gravy and with a ton of peas on the plate. The other meal was from the carvery and while the turkey was pleasant the roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings and carrots were poor to say the least. We finished our meal, the plates were cleared by another waitress who was very pleasant and apologised for our earlier wait. We then waited 10-15 mins and no one offered us desserts so we asked for the bill and left without tipping, I may add. Whilst I was not expecting an A La carte, silver served meal I felt totally disappointed in our experience at your restaurant. The waitress left a lot to be desired, maybe through lack of training, but as a waitress at Newcastle United I was amazed at her lack of customer service and although some of the food was very good, parts of it were very poor. It was supposed to have been an evening to celebrate my young friends success in obtaining a university degree but ended up being quite a disapponting evening overall. We went to the Swan for lunch today. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. There is a wide choice of meals on the menu - something for everyone. We opted for the cavery. It was delicious and very good value too! We will be back![Report for Removal] Alexandra Dixon

After visiting the newly refurbished Swan at Heddon, I simply had to share my experience with others. I had a fantastic meal, the best carvery I've had for a long time. The staff were professional but at the same time friendly and attentive. The interior was light, airy and modern yet sympathetic to the age of the building. I will be returning and certainly recommending it to others. [Report for Removal] Lianne

As a family we visited the SWAN and were highly delighted at the transformation of the pub after its long awaited refurbishment.whilst the decor was very plush it still maintained some of its original character.we were greeted by very friendly and efficient staff, who showed us to our table and throughout the evening asked us if everything was OK.we were all very impressed at the carvery, the chefs as they carved and the selection of vegetables and sauces available.the desserts were also delicious.ummmm. we will definitely be returning soon to try out the rest of the main menu.... WOW. What a difference the new refurbishment makes. The Swan is now bright, airy, clean and very very nicely decorated. I liked the new modern areas whilst at the same time maintaining the traditional feel in the bar. There were 4 of us visited for lunch. It was hard to chose between the menu & the carvery which looked very impressive. The chefs standing in front of the wine wall carving your meat was a nice touch. Overall the visit was excellent, the staff were efficient, and the food fantastic.[Report for Removal] Mary & Family

We visited the swan after it's recent refurbishment. Fantastic decor, great atmosphere, I was very impressed with the new extension. We were in a large group and were greeted by very friendly staff. Most of us opted for the new carvery which was delicious and very good value for money. The service was quick and efficient. I would highly recommend the swan and will be visiting again soon.[Report for Removal] catherine

We booked to go the Swan for a special meal as a group of 6. On arrival we noticed the nice new refurbishment, quickly followed by their lack of staff at the fairly busy bar. After being seated we waited 40minutes at the table and no one came to serve us. (One of our group had been in the night before and also commented on the lack of staff). We complained to the staff who were too busy to listen, catering for a party that arrived after us. Needless to say, we ended up walking out and driving to the Badger Pub at Ponteland. Here we finally received high-quality service and excellent food. Advice, if you want to go to the Swan arrive a few hours before you want food and do not expect any one to serve or indeed speak to you!!!![Report for Removal] Emma
