| I would agree with almost everything that Emma Unwin says about the Old White Beare. I have eaten there on many occasions, in the restaurant and in the pub. However; three of the last four meals I have had in the pub have been poor value. On the first occasion I hosted several family members and a visitor from Australia and bought lots of food and expensive wine. I had the Steak & Kidney pudding (a favourite dish)which looked impressive but sadly deflated when I cut into it revealing around two ounces of S&K and a lot of gravy. The waitress appeared, asking the obligatory" was everything OK?". I replied "not really" and explained why, after which she disappeared and no more was said. During the dessert the same questionn was asked, the same answer given and again no response. When the bill arrived, the question was repeated, at which point I went to see the manager to ask what was the point of asking if the meal/service was good, if no action was taken in respect of a negative response. Result? an apology and a free bottle of wine, only after we left did almost all of my guests reveal that they had also not enjoyed their meals. I visited again around two weeks later, this time with my wife and son (who runs a gastro-pub in Surrey). I had the Haddock as did my son and we were both very impressed with the quality and VFM. To cut a long story short, I have been twice since, on both occasions I had S&K pudding (I am stubborn yet hopeful) on both occasions the chips were over-cooked and the puddings over inflated, when staff asked if I had enjoyed the meal, I replied "no" and no action was taken. As a result, I will still drink in the OWB from time to time but I will eat at one of several less pretentious pubs within a three mile radius that offer well cooked food of good quality and value for money. Sadly this lovely old pub with it's very good ale appears to be living off its culinary reputation.[Report for Removal] | Mr C Summerskill Bradford West Yorkshire |

| This grand, historic country pub is a true find! Set in the pretty village of Norwood Green near Halifax you discover upon walking in low beamed ceilings and original fixtures and fittings. The pub serves good quality ales such as Timothy Taylor Landlord and a wide selection of excellent wines, the house dry white is very good. Food can be eaten either in the bar or in the restaurant and is of an exceptional standard ranging from comfort foods such as a huge whitby haddock in crisp batter with handcut chips and mushy peas to traditional steaks and fish or seafood dishes. Food is reasonably priced given the high standard and the menu changes by season, the service is prompt and friendly and means that the whole experience is truely enjoyable. Whilst in most cases a table for two may not need a reservation especially at off peak times, it would be advisable to book for larger numbers, special occaisions and at weekends to avoid dissapointment or a long wait. The pub has regular specialty nights offering food and drink at a fixed price, for example the recent Spanish tapas night, although places my be limited and booking advisable.
