A lovely little pub on the main road through Newport, next to the Fish & Chip Shop, it has ample parking to the front and rear. The ales on sale are served perfectly, and the pub has recently undergone renovation, giving a clean and yet charming feel. The food is as you would like to cook at home, from the lasagne, chicken and vegetarian dishes. But you have to try the steaks, from a Sirloin, 16 oz Rump to a 10 oz Ribeye, it really is cooked perfectly, locally sourced and well hung beef from a butcher in South Cave, and comes with salad, onion rings and mushrooms, with a side dish of home cooked chips, chunky and fluffy, as well as crispy. If you have a appetite for fish, you cannot beat the haddock and chips, but beware, they are a serious meal, size wise, I would try the 12oz fish for £5.95, it comes with copious chips and mushy peas or garden peas, beautiful, and for £7.95, you get the whopper, I've never managed to finish it yet and am happy with the 12oz. There are starters from pate to prawn cocktail, and a nice range of puddings, all home made, and there are also specials boards for main meals, look out for the braised steak and mash and gravy. Sublime !! We very rarely have starters or sweets, as you really are too pogged from your main meal. Staff are really friendly and helpful, and booking is not always necessary, although we always call first as we travel all the way from Hull to dine there, thats a good 30 minute drive, but it really is worth it. A gem of a find for eating out, can cater for parties up to about 12 people, maybe even more, but it is only a small eating area, and is good for a celebration meal, or just generally eating out. Cannot fault them for anything, friendly and great food, give it a try, you'll be surprised, pleasantly[Report for Removal] Neil Dickinson
