| Two days ago, my brother and I turned up on speck at around 7.30 pm after a heavy day travelling around for work, and a frustrating last minute search for a reasonable hotel in the main town. The owner and bar staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, despite the late hour of arrival and were offered a good rate on a shared twin room in the adjoining lodge. The bar is relaxing, well decorated without being over the top. We ate a reasonably priced and well cooked steak and chips seated in the delightfull gardens which benefit from a stylish, open-sided wooden gazebo where you can watch the wildlife swimming down the river only a couple of yards away. It was so nice to enjoy a cigarette or two after dinner sitting in luxury rather than being herded into an overcrowded shed hidden round the back! The room was comfy, clean and basic but not luxurious. Acceptable for the price with a fantastic view over the river. O.K. for a quick stop over but not really adequate for lengthy holidays. Great place, great value, great shell out after a day on the road. We enjoyed dinner, bed, cooked breakfast and a couple of pints for circa £100 in two. Highly recommended for a laid back pit stop. | This is a riverside pub in a very attractive location. Lots of outside seating and very pleasant on a summer afternoon. Very popular with the younger crowd, its alternative local name is the "Grope & (something that rhymes with Anchor but starts with a W)". Can get a bit rowdy on Saturday nights.
