PS i'd just like to add they never wished me a "Happy Birthday" either, and the lady behind the bar never smiled when i was there. What a shame. I think she preferd being miserable instead of socialising and being happy. I think i'll pick a pub in town next time.[Report for Removal] Tracy

PS re above review. At 2.30pm there were loads of empty tables and no rush for us to leave! So I fail to understand what that was all about apart from to make us feel guilty about being late. Pps. I very rarely complain about anything, let alone write it on the internet. I am not ultra critical, but I felt this needed addressing.[Report for Removal] Ms D

This lovely pub set in a wonderful rural position has lost all its former character. This used to be our favourite Sunday lunch venue when my father was alive. There was a wonderful 'family'atmosphere about the place and everyone was made very welcome by then owners, Peter, Margaret, Philippa and Ian. How it has changed. I booked for my mother's 91st birthday. The person who took my booking sounded disinterested and it almost seemed like too much trouble. I put this down to the fact that I called on Saturday evening, and they were busy. I called before we came to apologise for the fact that we would be about half an hour later than expected. When we arrived (at 1.00pm) we were made to feel guilty that we had come half an hour late and that they would need the table by 2.30pm for another booking. This had never been mentioned before. No-one even bothered to wish my mother a happy birthday, but the owner did open the door to help us through with the wheelchair. The woman behind the bar never smiled once as she took our food order. The waitresses were the saving grace of the place. They were absolutely delightful and the food was excellent, beautifully presented and cooked perfectly. We all had different dishes and each one was perfect. The chef came out to see us at the end of the meal, to check all had been ok, and he too was delightful, and astonishingly unstressed for someone who had been so busy.It is worth saying that at no point did anyone else come to our table to check everthing was ok! What a shame it got off to such a bad start, and had I had more time to book a table somewhere,I would certainly have tried somewhere else, where they sounded as if they would be pleased to welcome us. To be fair, the 'unsmiling' lady behind the bar did cheer up and the owner was very nice to us before we left, but sadly the damage had been done. Would I go there again? Probably for the food, but I would definitely not book any important occasion there, for fear of the way we would be treated. Maybe the staff should remember that it takes no longer to smile than to be grumpy. I did feel that it was our positive efforts that eventually got them smiling. Sorry for such a negative view when some things about the place are so good, mainly the chef and the waitresses. I also notice that the 'child friendly' aspect has disappeared, especiall outside. I think this will affect business especially in the summer, as it was always a favourite venue for families.[Report for Removal] Ms D

What a disappointment. The food was great but its not kiddie friendly at all. When i phoned regarding the kids and bringing a football i was told that was fine, I was not told there was a dog that pesters you. It punctured the kids ball, no apology from the Landlady, only a rude attitude towards the kids for playing in an area that was not allowed for kids but no sign was on display and there they could play were the dog left them alone. She kept having a little dig at them most of the time, but as it was my birthday i just ignored it and kept smiling. So we wont be spending £100 there again for an appalling attitude. I wondered why it was not busy in there at Dinner time on a Saturday in June on a summers day !!!!! [Report for Removal] Tracy

What happened here...... From the outside a most atractive building!! Inside well someone has ripped the heart out of this piece of England, it now fees like your sitting in a modern day social club with no atmosphere... i could not believe my eyes, thankfully my own personal freehouse would never get this treatment.[Report for Removal] Mr C
