| We had high hopes of a good pre-Christmas Sunday lunch here. Sadly we found that the food was OK pub food at restaurant prices. A large glass of red wine was £5.00. Various requests such as a pudding instead of a starter with the set Sunday lunch for £16.00 and a childrens portion of the chicken meal were refused. Two weeks before Christmas one would have expected turkey to be on the menu. There was beef or lamb. I had a slice of thick beef which was good. Unfortunately it was served on top of the roast potatoes rendering them soggy and not crisp. The gravy was already on the plate. All areas were cold. The fires were being lit when we arrived at 12.30. Too late to warm the place up by lunchtime! My sister and I did not take our coats off. The service was frigid and polite. We were not made to feel particularly welcome or special. There was no air of festivity as there were no Christmas decorations to be seen. A beautiful pub with huge potential totally wasted.
