| We were so surprised and shocked by the way we were treated at The Yew Tree, that we had to post reviews...something that we do not usually do. Having enjoyed a walk with my mother in law when she came to visit (we live in Newent) and ended up close to The Yew Tree around lunch time, we decided to pop in for a drink and to use the toilet. When we arrived there was a table of people sat on the terrace having drinks but the lights were off inside so we weren't sure if it was open or not. The door was open so I decided to quickly pop to the toilet before seeing whether I could order a drink. While I was inside my mother in law waited outside, and was surprised when a gentleman (who I presumed was the owner) walked from the occupied table on the terrace saying 'were the houses all locked so that you felt you could break into this one' and promptly locked me in. When he eventually came to let me out he was literally shaking with rage, overly aggressive, and all but pushed me out of the door telling me to 'go and break in somewhere else'. As I started to say that we were hoping to buy a drink, and the door to his 'public house' had in fact been open, he slammed the door in my face. We were hardly a threatening or 'dodgy' group, just a woman of 30 and her 55 year old mother-in-law. My husband and I have been managers and directors of companies involved in customer services for years, and would NEVER treat a potential customer in this way. This man should clearly not be dealing with the general public. Needless to say I have recommended to friends and family in the area (I have alot of family living in Newent) to stay well away.
