| Just had perhaps the best pub Sunday lunch here ever. Food is served on a carvery and is refreshed regularly. Meat was beautifully tender and there are more veg choices than could be fitted on the plate. Delicious all round. The treacle sponge was to die for! Only criticism - bigger plates please! We have just moved to the area and cannot speak for the 2007 review except to say this sounds like the opposite of our experience in every way. | This is the time to right some wrongs that have been posted about this great pub : the lady from Allendale was well aware the day before her visit that there was a party the night before and that every effort would be made to provide a specific vegetarian dish. (Owners/landladies are entitled to have a birthday party too you know!)And this was pointed out as the group arrived. The other members of the group seemed to enjoy their meal - never mind 'to be fair' - and I can say this because I was seated at another table. Nobody wants to stay somewhere where they don't feel accommodated, and as this lady made it glaringly obvious that she was unhappy, it was only right and fitting that that option was made available to her. As for being 'bared' from a pub ... well spelling is hardly this man's forte is it?? Alison and Colin provide an exceptional service to the local and wider community in very trying times when many external factors cause immense impact : bus availability, licensing laws, etc. I strongly suggest that readers of this message pop along to the Hare & Hounds and share some of the love and care and attention that is lavished on company, beer and food!!![Report for Removal] | SuperSilver Sunderland Tyne & Wear |

| we went to the hare and hounds for sun lunch yesterday - booked in as a party of 11 inc some kids and one vegetarian, also pre-booked. When we got there we waited then we were sat in three separate tables with the option of waiting longer which we couldn't due to children, next option given to us was to leave! we should have taken the hint then that we were unwelcome. One of the party then asked about the vegetarian option and was told that there hadn't been time to make one as they'd been having a party the night before - no apology offered and not even an offer of a cheese sarni or free helping of veg from the carvery. So the vegetarian decided to have a cup of tea which was then served in a dirty cup! we left and went somewhere else for puddings. To be fair the food from the carvery was nice but attiude, unhelpfullness and plain rudeness of staff make it less palitable.[Report for Removal] | kate maughan Allendale Northumberland |

| called in this pub for a meal one saturday night, the manager couldnt bring himself to speak to us,too busy rolling cigarettes and watching t.v., we were served in glasses that looked like they needed a good wash, we waited 45 minutes in an empty bar for possibly the worst steak i have ever tasted, when i complained i was told i didnt have to pay for the food, which i had no intention of doing, i will not be returning and would not recommend anyone to go here either.[Report for Removal] | stan sunderland tyne and wear |
