| I booked a table for Mother's Day three weeks ago as my parents and grandmother were visiting for the weekend. We arrived at the pub half an hour early and sat in the bar having a drink, at 2:00pm (the time our table was booked for) we asked a member of staff if our table was ready. She told us she would be back in five minutes. Twenty minutes lated nobody had returned. We asked again what was happening with our table and were asked if we could wait five minutes while they sorted out the restaurant. It became clear that there was no space in the restaurant for us and they admitted that they had given our table to some other people. We were told there was no room for us, to which we replied what are we supposed to do at 2:30pm on Mother's Day, we can hardly just go somewhere else. We were then offered a table in the "Board Room". This turned out to be a small room at the front of the pub with one table directly outside the men's toilets. The starters and main courses were very good and arrived very quickly after we were seated. The deserts were a bit disappointing, the tiramisu, although nice, was not coffee flavoured and the profiteroles did not come with white chocolate sauce as stated on the menu. We did receive a discount for our inconvenience and the service we received once we had a table was quite good. It would have been a nice gesture if the landlord or landlady had bothered to come over to apologise in person. | Myself and partner have visited the hilltop inn on a number of occassions either friday or saturday night and have always left happy and content! The warm cosy atmosphere and the welcoming attitude and quality service of the staff make you feel relaxed and at home. The food menu has no end of tempting dishes which are simply cooked to perfection, then after feeling full we still could not give in to choosing a dessert to share from the ever persuading sweets menu!!! | I've just returned from having a beautiful Sunday lunch at the Hill Top Inn. I had been recommended this pub by a friend and thought I would read the reviews before I went. I was a little put off by the dog comment from a previous visitor as I'm not a huge fan of animals, particularly were there is food. However I thought I would check it out anyway. I am so glad I did. The little dog is no trouble at all, in fact it adds character to this lovely place. It is no-where near the restaurant where we dined. I did see a couple eating in the bar area and the dog was seated near by, curled up fast asleep, certainly not interested in the dining couple or their food!! I have to say that you will find it hard to beat the quality of food and kindness of staff at the Hill Top. In fact I would like to congratulate them all for working so hard at getting this right, too many places have forgotten about good home cooking,cleanliness and customer care. | My husband and I was recommended to this pub for an evening meal and we now return regulary. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the food is beautiful and you get ample. I gaurantee you will not come away hungry and thats without a starter or pudding. There are plenty of lagers and beers to choose from. The pub has recently been refurbished and is really lovely.
