This is our local pub, yrs ago it was a thriving busy pub where all the local community used to go. Now its like the owners cant be bothered!!! Went in when it was freezing with snow on the ground and they hadn't lit the fire or put the heating on!! Also went in when the world cup was on...yes the tvs were on but with no sound!!!!! Also went in after a lovely meal somewhere else on on Saturday night...there was no atmosphere and only a handful of people in...was asked if we could have change for the dukebox (to add a bit of atmosphere) and was told no it was unplugged and kids were asleep upstairs!!!! Such a shame as the pub is beautiful and has such potential but we wont go in anymore as we resent giving them our custom when they clearly cant be bothered!!![Report for Removal] Mark Lawrenson

Loved it when I visited. As a child lived across the road at Smithyand listened to the singing from my bedroom. Boats pulled up for convivial atmoshphere and locals were many. Now desperately searching for brother Andrew Fletcher or any of his children - Karen, Malanie and Andrea. I tell anyone visiting the area to pop in to "The Cross". Please can you help. Thank you. Living just within walking distance we decided to go as a family with my husband and 2yr old son. I ordered home made chilli con carne and it came out looking like a bowl of discoloured water! I poured it over my rice and tasted it and it just tasted of water! I'm not one for complaining but this was discusting and should never have even got out of the kitchen. It just got worse...the yound guy said he has another one cooking and he will see what that ones like. 10 minutes later he came back and said, yes they are a bit tasteless and they are bought in from a company (I thought they were supposed to be home made!) He then walked off!!! I got up and had to go to the bar and ask what he was going to do and he just said he can cook something else! I said as my family have now finished their meals I won't order anything else, and then I had to say I was not paying for my meal!!! (They never offered!) We will not be going there again for a meal and its a shame as its in a nice canalside location, but terrible food and service. The chef never even came out to appologise or anything!!! 3 local customers now lost![Report for Removal] Pauline Gray

A picturesque old inn, full of character. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful and the food was very good. [Report for Removal] Gwen
