| Had a lunch time meal here. The menu was dissapointing and the food was over priced and awfull. I had a 'fishcake' but failed to find much fish in it,it also had ketchup in it presumably to make it salmon coloured,my husband had a steak which was nice but came with dried up mushrooms and frozen chips. | The food at this pub is really superb - top quality at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and the new refurb makes this a lovely place to be. Contemporary but with a real country feel. If you appreciate good food then this is the place to go. Good range of beer and wines to complement the meals. | Wow! This is now a seriously stylish country pub following what can only be described as a very tasteful refurb. Fantastic atmosphere and great food from a very tempting menu. | In November 2008 the Stag changed owners. We are an independently run country pub that provides freshly prepared locally sourced food at very sensible prices. Based on a simple model of quality food, friendly service and comfortable interior we serve an Anglo-French menu, which changes with the seasons. We hope you come and join us very soon. | Booked a table for 11 for dinner on a trip back from Australia. After friendly service from the young barman, an unfriendly waitress took our orders and we mentioned that the tables in the bar were sticky. No apology or offer to clean them was forthcoming. She took our order away and soon returned saying that the owner/manager (Melvyn Best) had asked us to leave!!! Apparently he was in the kitchen and too busy (?!) - odd as the restaurant was empty - to come and speak to us himself! We were told that the reason was because we mentioned that the tables were sticky! What can I say? The restaurant lost a potential 400 pounds in sales on a quiet Monday night and a group of near retirees were kicked out of a pub for the first time in their lives! Their loss not ours as we ended up at the Red Lion at Hunningham (no booking) and had a fabulous meal with great service. A fantastic evening. | Found food slow and to be honest i was put off before i even had the meal as the chef was stood at the bar smoking before and after our meal.
