| Booked via late rooms, so price was great. I had a single room above the Pub, just off the bar, for £50 instead of £65, my colleague had a large double again above the pub £60, both of these rates included full english breakfast. Greeting was polite and professional, rooms were clean and decor was in keeping with the 'oldie worldie' character of the pub. Breakfast was excellent, full english, cereals, orange juice, tea & coffee. (even had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs) We had three evening meals, good selection with specials, all good (maybe a bit expensive for a pub) Overall a very nice experience with very friendly staff. | From arrival to leaving things were bad. Sullen greetings. We were the only guests eating at the time. The menu was very poor. From outside you think " this looks great" but inside it is tired and looks like an old boozer. The menu was uninventive and limited. Scampi, steak, burger, tiny pathetic salads for £10.00. My wife ordered the cold salmon salad at £9.75 and there was about two lettuce leave, half a tomato, 2 thin slices of cucumber, about 8 prawns of which 3 had shell left on them and the tiniest piece of poached salmon whihc was smothered in marie rose ( probably to hide the meal). It was tasteless and not worth the money. I ordered a Caesar salad which came smothered in Balsamic which had to be sent back. That amount of Balsamic would have made me sick!! Nothing on the menu described how the dish would come and that is not the way to entice people. We had 2 sausage chips and beans for the kids at £6.00 !!!!!! each. We ate it because it was ok but they did not dare ask if we enjoyed the meal. We paid and left. We had been highly recommended but will definitely advise everyone we know to stay away.
