| My wife and I are bemused at the invective of some of the reviews of this establishment. They are quite cleary the result of a distasteful vendetta. As regular visitors, we are able to confirm that the welcome, the service and the quality of the food is excellent and the meals good value for money. | I booked a table for dinner on Saturday 24 April 2010 to celebrate my partner's birthday which was the following day - there were 8 of us, ranging in age from 24 to 83. We had a great time. Danny was particularly attentive and remembered my partner and I from when we visited a few weeks previous (along with my mother and son). It was nice to know we made a good impression. We received a warm welcome when we arrived, not only by the staff but by the locals at the bar too. The food was good; Danny was keen to let us know that there had been a change of chef and asked us to tell him if we weren't happy with anything. | My family recently had a wake at the Chapter Arms and found the young man who helped us organise it all very helpful and understanding, a pleasure to talk to. When it came to the day everything was perfect and given the situation it was a nice day. Food was superb, and all the staff were welcoming. My grandmother would have been so happy. | To be honest i feel it is really sad that people have no respect for the pub and i must say the STAFF and lOCALS are great fun it has a very warm and welcome feel to it. | I have been to the Chapter Arms on many many occasions but i have to say that it quite simply not what it was, since christmas it has steadily gone downhill, the staff used to welcome you with a smile and made you feel welcome, even though the pub itself is very grim and the landlord may or may not bother to talk to you, but the lovely staff have left and along with it the welcome, i shall not go back as now the food has gone downhill as well. | The so-called annual 'special events' appear to be completely new ventures which have been introduced to entice the unwary. | This pub has an excellent atmosphere, welcoming staff and great food. We have taken our friends, family, business contacts there at various times and each time have been complimented on the food and service. | The owner of this pub was extremely discourteous and rude to my mother and grandfather (92), who visited the pub to arrange the funeral reception for my grandmother, who had died two days previously. He appeared to be very agitated and showed a total lack of sensitivity to the fact that an elderly gentleman was there to arrange the funeral of his wife of 65 years, instead being dismissive and uninterested. | My wife and I have eaten here many times and have taken family & friends here. Every single time we have had top quality food, the portion size is good and pricing isn't too high. | I had not been to The Chapter Arms for 37 years and we had dinner there in mid 2006 and again, with friends, lunch last year soon after the new owners had moved in. The food, service and atmosphere matches everything 'boasted' on the Chapter's own site. I have known this place since just after the War and can see my grandmother, a villager, there now. She loved her stout. Her funeral 'reception' was held there in 1969.
