| having eaten and drank at this pub for many years i have always maintained that it is a lovely place to go and that the food,on the whole, is of a fairly good standard.However on visiting this weekend with my family ( 16 of us) for a lunchtime pint and sandwich, i was really disapointed at the poor quality of the food and service. On arriving, there was one member of staff behind the bar,who was taking a food order.Bearing in mind this was saturday lunchtime. Other staff just standing around the pub chatting!! Were then served by the most miserable looking barman who made no attempt to apologise for the wait or welcome us.and so it gets worse.Its a nice day so we sit outside and choose our lunch from the menu.We then order our food inside ,getting told that we cant place seperate orders at the same table number BUT no other solution offered to us!! We then wait an hour for SANDWICHES.In the meantime it has started to drizzle so we move inside,where there was plenty of room.Well the serving staff found this far to complicated when they started bringing out the food and were very rude about it.We then asked if they could wipe our dirty table 3 times and it wasnt done.We had dirty cutlery bought to us and when the waitress came over with her tray of sauces she says 'do any of you want any of these?' charming!! Well the food was very sub standard.The bread on my sandwich was stale,the steak in other sandwiches was tough all in all it was pretty awful,and none of this helped when having to listen to the waitresses shouting at each other about peoples orders across the room!! I complained to the manageress who made a string of excuses,gave an sarcastic apology and offered to refund any food that wasnt eaten. She then undercharged me on the refund and walked off leaving it to 'happy' the barman to sort out.Her customer manner was appauling,her staff were a true reflection of her and all i can say is whoever hired them should watch out for a fall in takings and a rise in complaints.[Report for Removal] | ali blackler croydon surrey |

| Visited the Harrow in July 08 for an early evening meal (Thurs). Having passed the pub many times, thought we would drive over from West Wickham to give it a try. Good looking menu and a few specials. Good selection of Ales' the Hogsback TEA was good and although I didn't try it the London Pride also looked good. We ordered stuffed Pork, wrapped in bacon which was very (very) dry and scampi which was just average. Childrens menu of chicken skewers with pitta bread was ok, although this was obviously the starter as they forgot to remove the salad, dressing and mayo. The two chicken skewers were very small (half a breast at the most), even for a starter. Probably the most disappointing aspect was the vegetables. Although apparently 'Freshly cooked' the batton carrots were reheated and dry. The mashed potatoe was very lumpy, dry and looked very unappetising. Oh forgot the tined peas ! Surely with microwaves it can't be that difficult for a chef to cook some fresh vegetables, even frozen peas are fine. I could have lived with the quality of meat if the vegetables had been better, to me it's a sign of lazy cooking. We were not asked how the food was until we had finished and were paying at the bar, which again was disappointing, although sadly not uncommon in resturants. I did provide some feedback to the barman who told me 'that's a shame as I have always found the food very good here but I will tell the Chef anyway'. Good to hear that he is happy with the standard of food but I was looking for something a little bit better. I guess if you are local and looking for a pint and have already eaten, the Harrow is an ok (Average) pub but it's not for me unfortunately. [Report for Removal] | Tony Mathieson West Wickham Kent |
