| We read the reviews on this site before visiting the Dog and Pheasant but are very glad we decided to make up our own mind after visiting twice (mon 23/08/10 and wed 25/08/10. Our experience was the very opposite of the earlier reviews of this pub.We were made feel welcome on entering and showed to a table when we said we were eating there. The staff and regulars at the bar were warm and friendly. Service was professional and speedy and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals there.next time we are on Mersea Island we'll definately visit this pub again and have no complaints at all.[Report for Removal] | Steve Manchester Greater Manchester |

| Picturesque country pub offering meals. We found it to be unwelcoming and very much a 'local' pub. Food and drink service was disorganised and we waited 30 minutes before we even got served drinks despite waiting at the (small) bar area. Friends of the management were obviously able to (repeatedly) jump the queue for food and drinks which added to the waiting time and management were offhand, rude, aggressive and finally extremely threatening when faced with disgruntled and complaining customers. Whilst we were there three other groups left for similar reasons and we saw no food being served at all but no explanations offered for the delay (less than half of the tables were occupied). The area provided for children consisted of a wooden frame (and just a wooden frame) unsuitable for any children under the age of 7 or 8. The interior of the bar is extremely tired and we ended up sat in a booth that strongly smelt of wet dog. There are much nicer, friendlier and more pleasant pubs on Mersea.[Report for Removal] | S Drew Colchester Essex |

| Used to be a really lovely pub with great food. Standards have fallen under the new management. Brusque, unfriendly service, recently saw a couple of customers asked to leave the pub because they were unhappy when, after waiting for over an hour for their hot meal it turned up cold. Better, friendlier pubs in West Mersea.[Report for Removal] | Tom Perry Canterbury Kent |
