| June 2009. My family had a Sunday dinner at this pub. The tables wobbled and drinks spilt. We ordered 3 fillet steaks medium cooked. The steaks arrived all dry and overcooked. They looked like they had been warmed up from the night before. My wife and daughter, both vegetarians, asked for the sunday roast but without the meat, which meant in fact a plate of vegetables. The usual price for a Sunday roast here is £9.50 - without the most expensive part, the meat, they charged us £9.50. Unbelievable. Not only that but they couldn't even cook that right, the potatoes were hard. We didn't complain at the time as we were being taken out by my father and didn't want to spoil his day. We did email our complaint to them. That was ignored. I would advise anyone wanting a well cooked, value for money Sunday dinner, to stay well clear of the Merry Fiddlers pub.[Report for Removal] | kevin draycott Theydon Bois Essex |

| My husband and I had Sunday lunch at the Merry Fiddlers on 8th February 2008. We found this pub to be so friendly, everyone was laughing and joking the owners were so warm and inviting, such a big difference from the last owners, who were miserable, rude and so unfriendly.The Roast Beef was hot, lean, and really tasty. | We arrived here on a sunday at opening time. One of our party couldn't get through one side of a double door with his tray of drinks so opened the other half and was told off by the manageress. 3 other people went in to get drinks and were all told off for standing in the wrong place or trying to order at the wrong point in the bar. Two sections of our party ordered food. When the third tried, immediately after, we were told we had to wait twenty minutes to order and that we should have booked. I had in fact rung during the week to check opening times and was not told it would be a good idea to book. So we waited twenty minutes and tried again. Wait twenty minutes again we were told. So we tried to cancel the other orders but couldn't. We waited some more and tried again. I managed to order two plates of chips for the children after some argument but that was all. They then explained they were a member of staff down. So we decided to wait until the others had eaten and than take sandwiches to the park. but their food took almost an hour and a half to come. The kids ate the chips but the portions were small and they were still hungry so we decided to give them sandwiches. We knew this wasn't allowed but we had tried very hard to buy food from the pub and had spent loads on drinks and crisps but couldn't leave without the rest of the party. We were in fact trying to celebrate the day after our wedding. We knew we were risking being asked to leave but we thought we would be "asked" to leave. Instead the manageress came storming out and, without giving us a chance to leave, threw our food on the ground and screamed at us, a chef came out the kitchen, swore at us and asked my husband to accompany him to a field so he could punch him - all in front of four small children. They were so unecessarily violent I am still shaking the next day. They seemed to be unsuited to the strain of running a pub. [Report for Removal] | KHV London Essex |
